At Long Last: Steve Vai's new Ibanez 2010 Floral Jem!

Hi Guys For those who are Ibanez fans and thus prove to have good taste (Just stirring a bit! ;} ), at last the new Floral Jem has been released! Personally I think she's absolutely gorgeous even though I still slightly prefer my original FP... If the FP2 didn't retain the original neck joint, I would seriously have considered getting one asap... AANJ is a must for me... Some Pics: AND YES! She's covered in curtain material again!

It to me looks like a toy, I prefer a sort of whats the word, conservative shape, sadly when i see it all i think is that its a sharp toy that must be kept out of the way f children for fear that it is very very sharp...... However the majority of the 13 year olds who i teach would love this guitar (soon this shall be kicked out of them)

I understand. I probably read the first half of that thread. Aren't these comments (as humerous as they are) meant to be in that thread, though? It doesn't concern me either way. My opinions are subjective with regards to a floral Jem as I own an 18 year old example. I appreciate different guitars for different reasons. I just attempt to refrain from dissing anything someone else might be interested in. There are better things to discuss in a thread showcasing a new guitar that ripping it off IMO. You won't find me ripping other guitars off on other threads - it doesn't interest me... But thats just me and everyone can do as they feel comfortable with. Again:It doesn't bother me either way. Sincerely!

I still do not like dissing something someone else might love... It's just not how I do things, and it certainly does not implicate that I don't have a good sense of humour, but I have just as much of a right to be super serial about what fly's and what doesn't fly with me, as the next person has to rip on who/whatever he/she wants...

P.S. I'm not taking any of this personally. Thanx for the concern! I'd prefer to get back on topic than spend so much time explaing my emotional state of health... koff...

"Some love them, others hate them" .....you said. :? so if anyone disses the guitar, and I don't think we are, it's OK...? I think some folk spotted your ( perceived ) intollerance to differing of opinion (about the said guitar) and are now taking the Mickey out of you.....?? Be cool bro !

The Ibby is a work of art...nobody denies that...it's just not everyone's cuppa . Accept my apologies if you feel you have been offended.

I also stated that I do not like ripping on something that might interest someone else. (I wasn't even referring to myself in this case as I am everything but affiliated with Ibanez or personally invested in the new JEM FP2…

I appreciate a great many different brands for different reasons...) After reading all the posts again I can only conclude that my words are clearly misinterpreted which means I should put m ore effort into expressing myself better and/or I am not the one being overly sensitive about things. Either way, I'll say it again: 1. No worries this side! 2. I still do not like dissing anything someone else might be interested in as much as I know everyone has the right to approach a topic in their own way! 3. I'm sure the new Jem FP2 looks better in person than in pictures... As much as I dislike the original neck joint, I'll probably invest in one of these at some stage. It's a Jem after all and after they discontinued ebony fretboards on the Jem 7VWH, I lost most of my interest in that one. Now just to get past that damn neck joint and wait too see what these will go for ......... ☹

@ Zark - don't be such a baby, We Strat players have had to survive the same awful neck joint for over 50 years and some of us managed to sound all right. ?

I was thinking they where so you could push the string into the fret but that would be the same as bending the string.

It's scalloped frets - Not 100% sure of the application, but it's used to get better bends and more vibrato AFAIK.

Alan Ratcliffe wrote They are great for bending and vibrato by pushing the strings down into the fingerboard. Blackmore, Malmsteen have been mentioned, but another one is the 13 string acoustic McLaughlin used with Shakti. Also the Ibanez guitars made for Vai are scalloped on the upper frets.

They don't specifically help with speed, but they help you lighten up as you have to to avoid bending every note when you fret it. The lighter playing is conducive to playing faster.

Strangely, despite my love of Ibanez and their crazier models in particular, I'm not taken with that specific one. The black background doesn't work for me, the flowery headstock neither. The original FPs were beautiful, and the blue floral JEM particularly I luuuuv. This one..not so much.
