At Long Last: Steve Vai's new Ibanez 2010 Floral Jem!

Hi Guys

For those who are Ibanez fans and thus prove to have good taste (Just stirring a bit! ;} ), at last the new Floral Jem has been released! Personally I think she's absolutely gorgeous even though I still slightly prefer my original FP... If the FP2 didn't retain the original neck joint, I would seriously have considered getting one asap... AANJ is a must for me...

Exactly my thoughts... They should be available internationally from August. If I where to order one I would get her from Rich Harris of Ibanezrules.com. He'll do a true pro setup at a fee and he hand selects his stock and sends back examples that don't meet his standards... Alternatively from a local shop, I suppose? I'm just very put off by the original neck joint... Never enjoyed it on my Jem 77FP...

Well, locally the Jem 7VWH retails for around R34 000,00 and with discount you can snatch them for around R25k -R26k... The FP definately won't be less expensive than the 7VWH, but shouldn't be more, I would hope...

Guys, I know Jems are only for a select few... Either you love them or hate them. Fact is a well setup Jem will run circles around most other guitars when used to play technical music. I love guitars, I'm not just into a specific brand and I appreciate them all for their individual strong points and specialized applications, but it doesn’t hurt to show respect where it’s due… (Class dismissed!) ? !

I love guitars, I'm not just into a specific brand and I appreciate them all for their individual strong points and specialized applications, but it doesn’t hurt to show respect where it’s due… (Class dismissed!) I am obviously an Ibanez fan......but Dee, I agree, not my idea of pretty......... :?

The graphic design on the body seems to accentuate the large horn, which is not the instrument's most endearing feature IMO.

RG’s and thus also Jem's horns have always been the best looking of all Rock/Metal guitars to my eyes… I also have to note that no two Floral Pattern Jems are the same (as with the original ones) because they are covered in material before clearcote/resin is applied to the body... The material pattern is applied randomly...

As I mentioned: You either love or hate them, but one thing is for sure: They do stand out in a crowd...

I have some objections but I reckon they're a bit different. I think it looks attractive. It's got a load of that romantic pistols and flowers '80s metal and rock vibe to it. I get that. My problem here is that it looks a little "Japanese @home". My buddy's Japanese wife once gave me a little tray (visiting gift kinda thing) that has a very similar kind of look.

My guess is that, unfortunately, it's designed to appeal mainly to Japanese men of a certain age - the ones who grew up with the initial Vai craze and are now more settled.

I don't reckon that the horn on the Jem is unattractive for a certain vibe (a few of the pics are taken at nasty angles that guitars shouldn't be photographed at that make that horn look cartoonishly phallic). I've got over the handle. I just wonder whether too many corporate design types spent too long over the graphic?

Zark, have you followed the whole, "I'd rather gouge my eyes out..." thread? Some of these responses on here are probably a little tongue-in-cheek.
