New GFSA: Technical Issues

At around 12h00 this morning, you'll all see a new face to GFSA along with a whole bunch of new features. We've been slowly building and testing this in the background and we both (Alan and I) feel that it's ready for YOU to start testing and enjoying ? We love it and we hope you will too! (It might take a week or 2 for you to warm up to it, so give it a chance ?) If you experience any technical issues, please post them here. There's a separate thread for content-related suggestions - please use that one for anything that's not a technical issue or technical suggestion.

Wizard, that one's coming. Here's the list of things still to come:

- A drop down list for the blogs, divided into the bloggers names. (This or a similar mutation is on its way sometime in the future)
- Unread counter next to menu items, including PMs, Articles, etc, so you can see when there's new stuff.
- Moving ads away from MusicAds.co.za to the same server as GFSA.

I'm starting to think that it's AV software that is causing the problems with the "session time outs" when I post to GFSA. I'm using Avira. So I think this is root of the problem, it looks promising, but I'm not yet 100 sure. Thanks for the tip-off.

I think your accounts table is a bit F$#ked tbh
I made an account (iLLy) on the old board, and now I still get the newsletters - but I can't login with that account, it says it doesn't exist (tried recovering password) and I can't create a new account with that address or name (it says in use)

Had to create this lovely little account to pretend I'm new ?

I have no problems on Win7 - or do you mean IE 8? I'm using Firefox

Firefox and IE8. The menus drop down, but there's a small gap between the label they drop down from and the actual menu. The mouse can't get down to the menu without going over that white space - and then the menu loses focus and disappears.

funny, I lately had times where I couldn't get the dropdowns to go away, haha, everytime I'd run my mouse over one it would just stick there until I drop down an other one, then that one would stick... but it doesn't bother me though, they're out of the way anyway

OK... so a setting on my PC then.

It's a font size issue. Make the font large and the labels get larger and the margin around the labels gets larger which makes that gap larger. And eventually the gap/margin gets large enough that the drop downs no longer overlap that black background and you run into the problem that I describe.

I have no issue with the menus. I run high resolutions on both my computers (1920 X 1200) so that might make a difference. Fonts are normal size.

Zooming is a common cause for this, depending on how the menus are coded (screen position or individual items for instance)
You not possibly zoomed at like 120% or something?

One thing which still annoys me (i might have mentioned it in the past but can't remember) is when you make a post, the page refreshes to the parent section instead of remaining in the topic you just posted.

I think you'll find that that's controlled by a setting in your profile.

Try looking under "look and layout" in your account settings.
