My vocalist is now investing in a mic........ (big chunk out of the wallet for us) Now I just want to know if it will be ok to use a guitar amp to amplify his vocals during band practise..... Just till we rack up some cash. Any other suggestions if this is an idiotic plan?

depends on the guitar amp. What is it?
It will probably sound bad of course, but you could live with it. Might I suggest taking a look at the Roland acoustic chorus amps? They have mic inputs and sound pretty good with vocals IMO

Not a bad idea.... on the contrary....especially if the amp has reverb. Years ago it was acceptable practise. :? The next step will be to get a PA system. Good luck.

You're going to be short of the 'sparkle' that the new mic should bring since the guitar speaker does not put out a lot of highs. Also, for lack of a balanced input, you're likely to pick up a lot of hum. Both can be lived with for practice purposes.

Back in the late sixties our vocalist sang through two mics, one via the lead Vox AC30 and the other mic via the Vox Bass amp. This worked well for small gigs. Both amps had twelve inch speakers which accomodated his medium to bass vocal range.

We don't actually have an amp yet. Any recommendations for a small PA system and how much it would cost? Keep in mind we're just 15 years old with no income so cost is a huge issue
