AlanRatcliffe The new Mullards are nothing like the old ones. They are not even a reissue of the old British made valve as claimed, but are made by Sovtek/EH (who own the brand name). In fact they are the exact same valve as the EH EL34 with a different logo stamped on, so you might as well buy the EH. Current best new production of EL34 is the SED, but the JJs are pretty good too.
Gearhead (now complete thread hijack, sorry Manfred) Does this go for the 12AX7s, too? Admittedly I haven't tried my newly bought Mullard yet but do feel 'had' if it's just an EH. Where did you find this out? ???
FenderBender @vic: 3 PCBs in fact, but thankfully no surface mounted components. The filter caps that are installed are rated at 450V and I measured 480V on the plate! Only a matter of time before the fireworks start ?
Manfred-Klose Thanks greame for having it checked out, before major damage occured. Can you upload some pics of what it looks like inside?

needleshy i just tried some different tubes in my Marshall, i found that Sovtecs are a little more noisy than the jj's, they are also a bit brighter and there was a very slight volume drop, thats with the sovteks i had on hand here. i tried a few other tubes which are pretty old and the names ahve been worn off, there wasn't much difference between them and the JJ's other than being a bit brighter. i'm starting to like the darkness of the JJ's but wanna try some other valves although the difference in sound is not major. i'm hearing about alot of the JVM owners that are going back to using the chinese tubes as they supposedly break up quicker and add some grit to your drive.
Manfred-Klose After doing some research i settled on the idea of going JJ again. I have bought jj tubes before where 1 valve failed after about 2 months. I like the sound they produce. Only thing is for the combination i am going for i dont think my credit card wil agree ☹
