And the notion of learning from scratch, as an adult, with a capable teacher is intriguing. I wasted a lot of time learning guitar by not knowing what to learn.
you hit the nail on the head singe....... to actually play some kind of coherent music you need two things one the theory knowledge and two the motor skills......... and if you have a tutor who teach's well and can explain theory easily and quickly the neccessary theory to get you up and running takes but a few lessons and the student will actually understand it not just learn it parrot fashion
and depending on the students motor skills ( that is do they battle to change the chords physically even tho they know all the positions in their heads and in this everyone learns this at their own pace ) .....
but truly with guidance from a tutor one can easily get a student who starts from scratch to playing in just a few weeks..... and playing well in just a few months .
and teaching vincent to play with 2 fingers will be quite easy as most chords can be broken down into what i call partial chords (jazz muso's use partial chords a lot to cut down on clutter in big bands...thats where a chord only has the notes essential to define it in the formula ) and using open strings and the two fingers he will be able to play quite well ....... but yes using chord voicings not used by most of us with 4 fingers ........anyway the style of using 2 fingers and different voicings might give him a unique style if he pursues this beyond his hospital stay
