  • Crazy Heart great movie........that some of us musicians will so relate to

wow what a real movie about the music scene......... if any of you guys have done the pro scene that involves the touring muso, this is so close to home it's even scary at times cos we all know , and worked on the road with characters like this......... and the drinking and dodgy hotel rooms are not just a hollywood creation.........

the movie is a look at a once almost famous star who has ruined his marriages ...four of em, is an alchoholic and is 57 yrs old and stil on the road cos he needs the money,... trading on his past success in small town gigs all over states.........

i found it a touching movie......... and yeah very real to life ....... there are people like this character out there...and this movie almost has a 'warning" in it for us pro muso's...a warning that time passes and it becomes quite the horror movie when you think one could still be on the road at 57 if one does not provide for ones future ........ truly touched a nerve ....... damn i'm 46 .......

and of course the drink/drug thing we all know how life is on the road..........

well jeff bridges has been winning awards for his role in this and apparantly up for an oscar nomination for it ...... also robert duvall and colin farrel (colin plays the now successful star that jeff helped get going in his career)

lets just say a moving story .......... and being a musician can make it touch quite a few nerves if you lived the touring life........

it's showing at all art house cinema's in SA so go see it

some great musicians too...and yes it's all coutry rock but really hot playing ... the character is portrayed as being one who messed up almost every area of his life but still is a greatly talented musician despite it .........

ok enough of me nattering go see the movie.......

have this one earmarked on my to do list....

A lot of players are still on the road at that age and older. I'm not sure it's a bad thing. Sure, it's partly motivated by the need to have money coming in, but then you could be working 9-5 somewhere. So mabye being on the road isn't so bad.

Most musicians DON'T make mega bucks. That doesn't mean they can't have a fun, rewarding career.

Sure, but I have a bank manager friend who is busy doing just that right now. Nothing to do with being a muso.

I do think there are some professions that render people vulnerable because they are, for protracted periods of time, away from their friends, family and other support structures (and people who keep you grounded and tell you're full of it when you are). You get the same thing in some sporting codes as well - notably cricket. However not all musos, and not all cricketers, become alcoholics or drug abusers. Bank managers, brick layers, motor mechanics, IT execs, pro golfers etc etc also have to be careful of all sorts of things as they journey through life.

Also saw this yesterday , awesome real-life movie.
For 2 weeks I was with my dad visiting some small towns sorrounding Atlanta , Georgia in 1975.
Thats exactly how I remember the music and the people. I also recall thinking at the time , how awesomely talented the 'unknown' bands were in each of those little dives !!
? Just realised that was 35 years ago. wow , I'm getting old.lol
Loved it. Went out and got the soundtrack. Obviously country, with some real beauts!
