My new Tokai ES60

Hi guys and gals,

I'm the lucky new owner of a Tokai ES60.
Let me start by saying, AMAZING QUALITY for a Chinese guitar. Beats the pants off all the other sub R10k hollowbodies I've played. The action is fantastic straight out of the box. The sound is also very good, although I would think of a pickup upgrade in the future. (The pickups are a bit muddy for my taste)

BODY: Maple Arched Top, Maple Side & Back
NECK : Maple Set-Neck
FINGERBOARD: Rosewood
FRETS : 22F
BRIDGE: LS-VBK Bridge, LS-VTK Tailpiece
INLAY : Dot
PICKUPS: PAF-Vintage MK4×2
CONTROLS: 2V.,2T., 3way Toggle SW
COLOR: VNT (Vintage Natural)

(Please no snotty comments on the poor state of my lawn... ? )

These ES60s always look surprisingly good given that they're half the price (less than half now) of the low-end MIJ Tokai ES. You can't really tell the difference between the MIC and MIJ Tokais from pics apart from the truss-rod cover screws. The f-hole binding (usually a dead give-away for the quality of this style of guitar, looks super clean). Most people seem to say they're great guitars for the money - also that the pickups aren't too hot ?

Easy enough to sort out though. Compared to the Epiphone Dot you get an open-book headstock and the neck binding which complete the look imo.

You must photograph it again and post it with the plastic off ?

Congrats. You must be crazy chuffed. Can't look too long though. Having bought the LS150 over the ES range, the ES60 is still cheap enough that it reeks of GAS. ?

I for example use nothing else....it has just the right stiffness to be very versatile as a plectrum.

I always have a red sharkfin handy. Not for playing. For checking neck relief. Makes a handy feeler gauge.

I used to be a white one, but I found the perfect balance with the red... I do more strumming type stuff so I find it works better for that. ?

My garden looks in a terrible state, all this rain we've had makes everything grow twice as fast and it looks like a jungle...The garden service dudes don't come out when it's wet >☹

+1 to the guitar and +1 to using a red sharkfin! Its the only plectrum I use and will ever use.

Yep. I used to use white sharkfins up to medium picks until a tutor gave me a Jazz III. Hated it at first until I got used to it, now its one of the thinnest picks I'll use (along with Fender celluloid heavies) - it's either that or the black Dunlop Gator grip (about 1.2mm I think). It takes a while to get the right sensitivity to play softly at first - you feel like you're picking with a brick - , but you can dig in & get so much better tone when you need to. Not ready for a Peso yet though.
