Farmstyle Blues Jam - Durbanville

FatBoy · 2010-02-08T12:32:17+00:00

Hey dudes A friend of mine has a spot on a farm, far enough away from anybody so noise wont be an issue. I am yet to go check out the venue, but it seems promising. The oke is charging us R50 a pop, so that's peanuts, no issue. There aren't any toilets (I'm not even sure of running water), so those that need to go, well sort that out yourself. The facility doesn't lock up very well, so all gear will need to be removed afterwards. I would like it if we can set up a monthly, maybe even bi-weekly blues jam. We could even look at moving Graemestock here (to avoid angry neighbours) if it goes well, thats up to you guys, lets first see how it goes. So who would be keen for something like this? We would need a PA system of course, so any sponsors would be lathered in beer. Your thoughts?

FatBoy

Not just yet, will try to set one next week.

FatBoy

Okay guys the time has arrived!

The first get together is set to happen this Saturday!!

We will kick off at 2pm, have a jam session, a braai and another session (or two).

Rene and myself would like to get a regular bunch of okes together and see if we can get a sort of collab band thing going.

Those of you interested please add me on facebook http://www.facebook.com/fritzbrand (just add a note saying GFSA Blues or sumfin) and I will invite you to the group I have put together. I will run future get togethers from that group.

Where is the venue ?

nick

And in order to better prepare is there anything we can brush up on? Basically the list of backing tracks?

FatBoy

Hi Guys

I will need to make a map to the venue, I will post it a tad later. Its a farm just outside of Durbanville

With regards to the list of songs, its all in the facebook group I posted earlier. Like I said, add me on facebook, (with a comment like GFSA Blues) and I will invite you to the group that contains more info.

Nick you did get invited already, but you haven't accepted yet...

kingr

i'm attending, looking forward to meet you guys...hopefully I will find the place as easy as it sounds.

FatBoy

I do believe the first Blues Collab jam session was a MOERSE success.

I had a lot of fun guys, thanks to all who pitched up and pitched in!

I personally can't wait for the next one!

Some pics below, the rest are on the facebook group

Looks very good Fritz

That Ibanez looks very cool. You need to tell us who all the folk are?
Did you play some Harp as well?

FatBoy

Thanks dude!

Yea that Ibanez is rather nice. I specifically like that it doesn't have the eye gouge headstock!

I have added some names to the pics now.

Yea I did play a bit of harp towards the end. Didn't get to play on me new amp / mic combo though as Jack's amp conked out so I let him play through mine. Not a train smash though, sounded lekke through the SM58 anyway.

Was loads of fun!!

Jack-Flash-Jr

Cheers for the amp indeed, my Marshall has been in for repairs too many times. I now have a good reason for GAS...an actual need! The Ibby is a limited AXS32, was only in production for a couple of years I think. The collab was a blast. We hit the golden stratospheric spot a couple of times! The rest, well... glorious blues cacophony ?
I can attest that Fritz can sing and blow that harp pretty damn well, all he needs is a black suit and a blues mobile.

Reinhard

Thanks for organising the event Fritz, I had a great time. Looking forward to the next jam!

FatBoy

Only a pleasure dudes! And thanks for the kind words Jack!

nick

What a perfect venue for this, middle of nowhere, can crank the amps without disturbing people! Really enjoyed it and will definately be attending the next one, thanks Fritz 8)

Manfred-Klose

Really wanted to come jam!!!!!

Fritz@ hows the acoustics with the drums inside and vocals on the PA, did you have any issues?

will try next time.

FatBoy

Next time Manny!

The acoustics are a bit crappy, but its good enough for a jam session like this. The oke is looking at maybe putting some underfelt on the walls at some stage
