  • The suitable chair to play flamenco guitar (RCM Toronto)

The height of the chair in which we play, has an influence on us, and to enhance the energy and time of our guitar practice, this factor should be taken in consideration, I remember when Paco came to Toronto -29 January 2007-,he just started to play and after one minute or so, he stopped, and say “You know what…
I can not play in this chair…please change it”
So it was a bit hilarious, also the way he said it, so the other day at the Conservatory I explained about this topic and here is the video:

yep ..... i know that feeling .and for ages take my own chair to every show ......... yes it's a hassle but it's amazing what a difference a few mm in height of a chair or an uncomfortable seat can make to ones performance........

well now the problem is solved........ by bringing my own chair ..it's become part of my setup.......and i never have an uncomfortable show ...

and btw i tried about 6 different chairs before i settled on this one i use ..... and at R300 odd a pop for a chair/stool these days it it was actually a fair expense but well worth it ..but one has to do a whole show on a chair to see if it works for the duration.... so one needs to buy em and try em hehhehe i now have a fair collection of odd chairs in my storage room

and to my amazement i found a chair which is almost like a directors chair that collapses but has no arm rests but still a back rest ... it's meant for camping but without the armrests as in most camping chairs...it's the perfect height and being a canvas seat i can do the long gig.... with total comfort ....and without my bum/legs going numb

and the bonus is it folds up and fits into my gig bag (ok it's a big gig bag heheheh ) so easy to trasport too..and with a back rest cos stools get very uncomfortable.......

so yeah the smallest things often not guitar related can influence ones performance from chairs to comfortable clothes even shoes....... and of course the positioning of the lighting .....one may look fabulously lit from the audience but on the stage the lights might be in your eyes when you look at the neck ....... it's distracting beyond belief... yeah so i'm becoming quite fussy and check everything before a show even in small venues or should i say especially in small venues....

good post ruben .and keep em coming
