Seriously? I always had this thing for John Lennon, mainly because he was just a bit less sugary than Paul.
But over the years I have come to realize that Paul was the Man, especially when it came to songwriting. I think George would have come out of his shell earlier had John and Paul allowed it.
I think George was a late bloomer. Have you read Geoff Emerick's book? There were occasions when George Martin or Paul would make a decision to take the guitar solo away from Harri Georgeson simply because he couldn't get it down even after multiple takes. On other occasions George Martin would teach Harrison a solo by playing it slowly on the piano.
This goes back a long way. Paul played some of the lead guitar on the Help! album.
Towards the end though he was coming on stronger, as a guitarist and even more as a songwriter.
