20th anniversay Ibanez Universe multicolour reissue

Ok, I know this will burn the retinas of the traditionalists and call my aesthetic sensibilities into question. But. This thing is GORGEOUS. My heart is beating a little faster and I'm going to start drooling any moment now:

It's the 20th anniversary reissue of the original UV77MC (mc=multicolour). You know, the Steve Vai Passion & Warfare album cover guitar. (Or is it UV777MC...never did bother counting the 7's on the different models.)

However, all is not well in nostalgialand. It's a direct reissue of the original, meaning it doesn't have all the design improvements they've undergone in 20 years. It feels like a step back. I know: I played one of these exact ones, but black and green not "swirl" until it got stolen last year. In fact that was an original 1990 model so nevermind reissue, it would've been 20 years old this year. So while I'm now very sad that it's gone, I can honestly say I like my new one more. Better trem design, better looking neck, better neck joint.

So EVEN if the price was a "reasonable" $2500-3000 I wouldn't have bitten. And I should probably mention they're flogging these for $6000...? Arguably justifiable since there'll only be 100 made, i.e. strictly a collector's thing.

Ah well. Now I'm dreaming of a modern-spec, multicolour swirl UV for the normal price. Damn you Ibanez.

I love Ibby's but guitars like that give the rest of the Ibby's a bad name ?

Must say, I'm far more into the less-multi-coloured, less sharp Ibby designs. S-series and JS-series all the way ?

Judging by the specs, must be a cool guitar to play tho!

i used to be a die hard ibby fan especially all the superstrat thing... then i got my grubby hands on a jackson and a kramer...

just a different feel, but man does that feel make a big difference

Although, in my defense, Meir put those yellow and green knobs and I never really did like how purple it was but it played AMAZINGLY.

I love the different approaches to what constitutes beauty. At a place like sevenstring.org or jemsite everyone's reaction is like mine, just bitching about the price of course.

@Norio: I love the S shapes too, but the RG was luv at first sight. It looks mean and metal but in a quietly threatening way, still following the basic classic lines, compared to the exotic X-shapes which are too attention-seeking for me. (Yes I know a multicolour fluorescent guitar is not exactly *UN*attention-seeking...it's complicated.)

@guido: I should try some Jacksons, but I've never seen one that really interested me. Plus they're owned by Fender, yucch. (Ok Ibanez is no less of an evil giant corporation so we'll let that one slide.)

Yay!! A man of style and taste. The middle pickup? Well it's a single coil so it does what single coils do, good for clean Fender-y sounds. The UV is an extremely versatile guitar, this is no one-trick metal machine. The 2nd and 4th pickup selector positions combine the inside coil of one of the humbuckers with the single-coil for one of the best acoustic-like clean sounds I've heard. Check out "Sisters" on Passion & Warfare: that sound. I defy anyone to tell me that's not an awesome clean sound.

This is the one I have now. I have to admit this is the best-looking one imo, the silver and black works well.

Great guitars they may be, and BMU, even though I cant see the pics you posted, I am sure yours is just beautifull. But that first one is uglier than a buffalo heamorhoid... It reminded me of a picture in a book of a Will Ray Custom Shop "Mojo" Tele, which is by far the ugliest guitar I have ever seen. I couldnt find pics of it on the Net last night (will try again tonight), but Imagine that finish in lime with 24carat gold leafing, on a Tele with cream P90's -angled bridge pup- and something called a B-bender stuck to it.

They must have done their homework and discovered that there are at least 100 people in the world-wide guitarist fraternity that would be insane enough to spend R6000 on that thing. :roflmao:

I think they hardly have to do any market research at all, every time they do this they have no problem getting them sold. There was some anniversary JEM with Steve Vai's DNA (i.e. blood) mixed in the paint etc. etc. The new Paul Gilbert Fireman guitar is selling for $6000 too...business as usual. People are nuts. ?

hehheehh damn i'm busted ......yeah i'm actually a closet shredder ....... and keep my steve vai cd's hidden from my hippie acoustic muso friends........ and now if i can only find a way to hide that double stack legacy amp and my 7 string JEM hehehehehe .... but yeah no worries i'm getting councilling for it heheheheh
