Saw them at the Moshito music festival a while back, with another group called Sticks Majona (spelling).
The blk jks were amazing, real energy, real music, cool example of intergration and application of rock/ prog music into ones culture. I think all in all they are very talented. The drummer was voted best musician of South by South West a while back, not something to take lightly, he literally DESTROYED the kit when I saw them, and who doesnt like a guy who knows how to play there instrument to death.
    Sold. Awesome.

There's definitely a big rock influence. Sounds weirdly like some hectic moments in The Mahavishnu Orchestra. And a great music video too. One of the best I've seen in a long while (not just South African). I'm there next time they play in CT.

    Loved that guitar solo ?
Very energetic..........nice Mika..........the energy reminds me of a group from Transkei called Amampondo couple of years ago. Saw them at The Market Theatre............. awesome drumming and percussion band.

They sure have a "fresh" approach, but best, well it depends what we like heh?? Definately not Mango Groove, heh? Hahahahaha
My company was involved in early development of Blk Jks through MTN Xploded - they deserve all the kudos they're getting in overseas press... album rocks, it's technical and loose - great combo.

I came across a great band called Isochronous based in Pretoria.
Really one of the better bands around imo, and I had never heard of them before... great talent

Anybody else heard of them? awesome stuff...
Yea they're AWESOME ? I'm keem to see em again..
I'll put in a plug for Them Particles who I saw again last night. Great sort of swampy/rootsy sound. Saying that the majority of the solo instrumental space goes to lap steel and accordion may help you to imagine what's going on with them.

I think it's a good thing that we're citing different bands in different genres here. It shows that we have choice and multiple options and that musicians are making music.
mr cat and the jackal, they have some cool songs, they good live. they really put on a show and it seems like they enjoy playing.

Um :? they mention that Mew is one of their biggest influences... so whats your point? :-\

How about we start our own thread and then you stick to who is YOUR best band, and we can all give our own thoughts?
I don't say they the best, I just thought they where pretty darn good...

Never heard of them? do you have more info? Where they based?
I know they site them as there main influence, however there is a big diff between influence and nearly the same sound...... Have you listened to MEW? ???
Now I do know ALOT of people like them, thats probably because they are very talented musos, I think they study at tuks...... They are all great musicians, and when I first saw them I was gobsmacked at how good they were, I even went so far as to buy ther Album for R100......... So I am not basing my statement on ignorance...... I have seen both them and Mew live and I can tell you with all honesty its very similar, for my taste a bit much.........
I also have noticed over a year of seeing them again and again, there set has gotten less about playing and more about showing off there talent, I thnk they kind of throw in alot of solos, drum fills and what not to the extent that it doesnt serve the song but they feel there status as a good band relies on there doing so...... All Aside they are a very tight goood band in my view,
Truth And Its Burden are a firm favourite of mine at the moment. Their guitarist is my biggest influence.
Make sure to check them out

Cool thanks, that's a better post and I like what you have to say... very informative. I'm going to go watch them next week so I'll take what you say into consideration. But like you say.. talent musos none the less. maybe it's a phase... they might get back to the 'music'
Very nice. This is the first time i've heard the Blk Jks and they have a very cool sound, not to mention the strange Weather Report like vibe.

                            Thanks Mike.
If anyone is interested BLK JKS are playing saturday in Newtown........ its there last show before the yhead back to the USA
