replacement speakers for Fender twin

Whats a good set to get, and where in jhb, and further how much. My amp sounds great, but the spealers do seem a bit hard done by, I really font want to have to respeaker as I could use the cash for a new pedal, whats a sign that the speakers are dying or not so good?

Its amazon without the s*** of wondering how much its going to cost with import bla bla bla. Some things 'like speakers' are cheaper this way than thru music shops.

Just did a check on a Celestion blue.

Take 2's price is virtually identical to the retail price from Tradelius. So no benefit there IMO.

The only advantage would be getting an item not stocked here.

Hmm... Not bad. You'd stand to get discount on a locally supplied one too. How is Tradelius's price on the Gold? About the same as the Blue?

Don't know the Electro Harmonix - didn't even know they had a speaker range.

Firstly I am suprised by all this talk of speakers when it looks like you are selling the amp on Gumtree? Seems a bit of a waste and you will never make the money back. I bought my C12N's from Karel and they were a few thousand Rand for the pair, shipping alone was $150 for the pair.

From your ad: I would love to take it to america with me but sadly cannot as it would cost me an arm and a leg (and I need those to play guitar) so yeh get yourself a nice vintage Fender twin at a good price.

Why not just the speakers there?

I started going to the source and bringin in direct and why I have got an importerd licence and a freight company, if we club together we can bring the prices down because we save on shipping costs, the biggest killer with heavy goods like speakers/transformers etc.

Well I figured while in SA for the next year, I could invest in the amp thus new speakers, or sell it and get a smaller one which would nt be so heavy to take or maybe just keep the cash and buy a new one over there (probably the better of the options. However I would like to keep the amp as long as I can as I am gigging and it sounds great, thought maybe throw in some new speakers, make it sound a bit better, then sell it for more when I leave.
If you do know of anywhere here I can get speakers then please share, otherwise I would have to order from usa I reckon, and as you said that will not be cheap.

@ Mika......One thing you can do if you want to improve/change the tone of the twin is do the loudspeaker swap to whatever you prefer and keep you original loudspeakers.

When it comes to selling the amp, refit the original loudspeakers and sell the amp as an original again.

You can then either sell the extra loudspeakers separately again to recoup some costs or keep them for your next amp...

that is true, tomcat you are a very smart fellow, I like the jensen whata whatas......... But shipping is a beast. The art to selling your amp leaving you enough to to leave the coutntrey is hard, I dont want to be ampless any longer than is nessacary

I import all my speakers, a much large selections and I always match if not better any price I could get locally, that said no mater what speakers, at least reputable ones, you buy, you are going to be for decent cash layout.

My Jensen C12N's were over R3000 for the pair... If you bought a pair and put them into your Silverface Twin and wanted to make it back you would be selling your Twin for close on R10,000, anyone in their right mind wouldn't pay that as there are way better options for that money.

I went through this with my Bandmaster. I have spent over R11,000 getting it to where it is, not sure I would make t back selling it, I don't plan in it, but it is a consideration, or should be.

Plus it was worth it on a Blackface, which fetch higher prices and mine is stock, all original Mallory Moulded's recapped with Sprague's etc... But still.

Well I just checked and I paid R2,600 for my pair, so under R3,000, but in that ballpark... alot depends on rate of exchange, shipping, taxes/VAT etc. But it is all relative as a SINGLE Celestion Blue (UK made) is going to be over R3,000, just ask Tom ?

This is not something to take lightly, it is your choice, but given the fact your amp is working, sounds fine/good (I suspect), I'd just use it till you head back Stateside. Sell it when you leave as is. If you invest in a R3,000+- set of speakers I doubt you will be able to pass that as 'added value' to the guy who buys it from you... alot of guys have a hard time selling a Silverface for even R6,000, plus the fact that is a 100W+ Twin limits your market further.
