Whats a good set to get, and where in jhb, and further how much.
My amp sounds great, but the spealers do seem a bit hard done by, I really font want to have to respeaker as I could use the cash for a new pedal, whats a sign that the speakers are dying or not so good?
PeteM
Hey Mika, if your amp sounds good, why do you want to replace the speakers? In my limited techno experience, a speaker either works or it doesn't. On close inspection you might have a tear or two but if they sound good to you they are probably alright. I say get the pedal and worry about how you're going to replace the speakers if and when they bomb out on you.
But hey, there are a lot more experts in this field on this forum, lets hear from them.

I agree with pete. Those speakers should be nicely worn in by now.. Buy your pedal or start a fund for some Weber California Alnicos

they sound great, however when I really pump up the fuzz from say my big muff they woof and convulse. Basically certain stuff sends them a bit overboard or the one woth vibrations,

I had the same with a speaker once on high volume - found out that it was not securely mounted to the box. Someone had replaced the original screws with smaller ones. It felt secure to the touch but was not making proper contact with the frame.

hmm, maybe I must inspect that. Cuz yeh this amp vinrated a heck load.

2 things: firstly the speakers are designed to breakup to get that grit overdrive, which imo isn't good for some pedals with a bit of lowend.
Secondly the advice part. Go to music connection, with your gear and the settings it does damage at. Plug in to a few cabs and you'll have your answer. Even if you find you like speakers in ******** cab, if those speakers are installed in your open back cab they may lack the bottoms you want. Do as much research as possible. Don't order speakers blind. Cheers

however in a twin they shouldnt really be under stress to much. Either way I will look into it. methinks, How much do a god set of speakers go for (to suit a twin) In the US it seems around 79 to 129 $. and then where do you get em out here?

Old paper cones will eventually lose chime, the cone breakup under load is what makes the amp sound great but it wears the paper down. If you feel the attack in the highs is not as it should be, cheapest is to have them reconed. There was a post about that recently, some place in CT iirc.

it seems all the godd services are in CT ☹ ☹ ☹ >☹

Hey Gearhead please explain 'chime'. I googled chime and it is referred to it but nobody explains what it is. Is it measurable or is it an audible nuance only.
Gearhead
I was referring to those lovely ringing overtones your guit/amp/speaker can produce when everything is in place. The highs on an overdriven LP, the twang of a Tele etc. are all in the highs and nowhere else. You have to realise that most 10" or 12" speakers for hifi do not even produce highs in the amounts that guitar speakers do, so that's really where the difference comes in.

problem solved it was just some tightening of some nuts (mainly around the chassis, These amps get super tube rattle when you pump them + humbuckers

"Chime" is one of those words like "Quack" that I find difficult to explain in words. But it's one of those sounds you instantly know when you hear. I have a great memory of the first Graemestock where I was playing my Strat through my Vox - I looked up and saw Riaan with a huge grin on his face. I looked at him quizzically and he just pointed to the Vox and said "Chime" (and it was). For me the epitome of chime is a Rickenbacker through a Vox. 'Specially the 12 strings...
I've actually been thinking of replacing my Twin's speakers with a pair of Celestion Golds (higher powered Blues) to add the Vox element of chime to the amp. Long-term thing though as Golds are real expensive.
Otherwise, the Jensen C12N speakers are the classic Fender amp sound (they were also made with Oxfords or Utahs, but they aren't anywhere as popular). Players wanting a tighter low end or smoother drive usually go for any of a variety of Eminence or Weber speakers. Players wanting more headroom, clarity and spank like the EVs.

Hey... glad you fixed it. ?
MIKA-the-better-one
but where can you get them, every I have spoken to says that they dont have stock ☹
Then most Ebay ppl dont do the whole international shipping thing
AlanRatcliffe
Matta can probably source for you, and it might work out cheaper. Otherwise while many stores don't ship internationally, some do (not cheap for a pair of speakers though). Look around...
I know Weber ships internationally and do "soundalikes" of most classic speakers and some good original designs. Plus they are very helpful in helping you choose the correct speakers.

Guitar loudspeakers in SA are like hen's teeth. Most distributors regard the guitar market in SA as being too small to bring anything in.
Chances are the twin's loudspeakers are either Eminence or Jensen. The local distributors for Eminence, Sound & Light City do not bring any guitar loudspeakers in at all....... >☹ >☹
Tradelius have recently become the distributors for Celestion so that is probably the best option at the moment.....I know that their first stock of guitar loudspeakers should be arriving sometime this month.
Nobody, (Except for Matta that is) is bringing in Jensen.
So your options are either soon to be Celestion locally or Eminence and Jensen directly imported.
AlanRatcliffe
Some Jensen speakers are theoretically available from Fender, but I haven't asked if they are actually keeping stock recently.
