Active humbuckers

Does anyone use active humbuckers, what is your opinion on it? Just a bit sceptic, Is worth the hassle?

To bad it only comes out in strat and tele, i was looking for something more on the line of a humbucker, i'm a humbucker freak!!
seems like i have to wait for someone to figure out how to correctly cancel phase of a pickup.....

Don't hold your breath. The very thing that makes them sound the way they do (the coils being next to each other) is the very thing that means they can only cancel 99% of the hum.

Dont think i'll ever go the single coil route, i'm not a fender guy, the tone is a bit vintage. I'm more of a les paul,jackson kind of guy.....hi gain tone is my game. Cool Quote:

Hehe, the thing is, when your taste for music and tones vary allot, it becomes difficult to just like one guitar. Even if my current guitars are 'sufficient' for now. They are not really suited for playing high gain stuff, even tho i mostly uses high gain pedals and sounds. A real nice jackson or esp etc will do for the riffing and shred guitar sounds i like. Even tho im pretty useless at those techniques at the moment ...

out of personal experience i would say that jackson has probably the most pure guitar tone out there compared to esp/dean , it is actually fun to play on a guitar that is smooth, fenders are a bit tight.

But then again fender has a great classic tone, great for recording.

An Ibanez ? Jackson's have the crappy headstock design that pulls the strings through the nut at an obscene angle. Not a huge problem when the nut is locked, but still a bad design (plus some of the cheap Charvels have the same headstock and no lock nut). The IBZ trems are better too.

If you absolutely have to go Jackson, make it a soloist.

If you want a soild sound go for a model with a hardtail(solid bridge) then there is just pure sigal, no loose tremelo bars,the jackson dinky or soloist will get the job done, the jackson dk2 would be fine, but this model is more of a metal guitar, but it has a solid bridge, here is a picture, i'll add some info a bit later.

francis, go look at the dinky MG/pro series range, and the soloist as well. some of them can get a bit expensive.
The ones with the locking tremelo is also nice, but i prefer the hardtail.

OK - my Z$2.00 worth.
Notes on Care and feeding of Strats.
Strats have very sensitive single coil pickups.
Strats can detect hum of light globe even LED at 100m.
Hum is worst at toggle positions 1, 3, and 5
Hum less at positions 2 and 4,
Position 2 and 4 are using 2 pickups together therefore buck the hum.
Positions 2 and 4 lose harmonics (eg 5th fret E harmonic on high E string)
Positions 2 and 4 sound like Gibson Guitar, best for Jazz music
Strat will cry and wail when sees high gain pedal
Sound like Jimi Hendrix, even when not playing Strat
Best put noise gate between Strat and gain pedal
Strat don't cry so much, just purr.
