That noodle on channel24 wasnt criticizing. Just a destructive jack-off for his pals and like mindeds to rah-rah.
I thought the whole point was to rattle some cages to see if there are any fans out there who actually know what a full stop or a shift key is for.
Some of those replies were hilarious, if posing challenges when it comes to timing the taking of a breath.
FWIW I think he has the germ of a point. Problems arise when musicians tie themselves too closely to corporate brands because questions arise as to whether they are expressing something that comes from themselves or just writing advertising copy.
I think there are a lot of musicians who have to serve mammon so they can put food on the table and send the kids to a good school. So they write jingles, play sessions, write wedding songs etc etc. Mostly they find ways to keep these kind of corporate gigs separate from their real work, the stuff that means something to them and that they want to put their name on. The Parlotones blur those lines and we don't know where the art stops and the advertising begins.
Which is their right, of course. But it's our right to react to what they do, or to put all the corporate stuff aside and try to judge them simply as musicians and composers.
