Quick update: I bought a Ibanez Tube Screamer (TS9DX).
Spent the last hour fiddling with the knobs!
The TS9DX has 4 modes:
- TS9 Mode
- + Mode
- Hot Mode
- Turbo Mode
There are 3 other controls:
Marshall clean channel Settings:
- Presence = 3
- Treble = 4
- Middle = 6
- Bass = 4
TS9 Mode:
With the level set to full, drive to full and tone just past halve is pure bliss.
Classic TS9 sound. :bopping:
+ Mode
With the level set to full, drive to 3 quarters and tone to halve makes for a nice chunky sound, so more mids and less highs.
Hot Mode
Um, well did not spend that much time here. It is almost muddy, so I took the drive and tone down allot.
You end up with a very nice slight overdrive, perfect for smashing pumpkin type stuff.
Turbo Mode
Don't like it at all, way to much bass! Probably need to spend more time here as well ?
I like the TS9 & + Mode the most. In a nutshell this is a amazing pedal.
I turned my amp up to about 3 and with the level full on the TS9DX.
After 1 hour of playing I can swear my valves glowed more than usual.
I made the mistake to switch to the Overdrive channel on the Marshall.
Don't ever do that with a Tube Screamer turned on!!!!
The effect = harsh feedback noise from hell and overdrive that WILL kill small children!
One power cord was enough to make me never do that again!
