I still battle with 80's music. GENERALLY nothing inspiring came out of that decade. I still dont know if we can categorize by using decades, but there were some very scary years in the 80's.
I know you're not saying that NOTHING good came out of the 80s, and generally I put out the line that I am deeply allergic to 80s records (not necessarily the artists) and especially the rather over-done production styles that seemed to dominate.
When my thoughts go back to the 80s I tend to remember HAIR, padded shoulders, HAIR, cheesy keyboard harmonicas and marimbas, flanged fretless bass, that big stadium-rock drum sound, HAIR and .... did I mention hair? But there was lot more than that to it. More than I can think of off the top of my head.
All eras of music, however you define the eras, had their good and their bad. I think the 80s is burned into the memories of people of a certain age because it was the era where MTV started changing the game and so image and promotional videos became very important. And so all the hair and those ghastly fashions are burned into our memory cells.
Crowded House - an 80s band, and really good.
