What type of Dremel did you use, do you have a picture or model name?
It's a MultiPro - the one with the built in speed control. My third, as I have completely worn out two others in the last 15 years. I used the standard Dremel-made router platform as the precision model has too small a footprint to work on a neckplate. The bit was a standard 6mm downcut for most of it. You must scribe the finish, rather than just use a marker, as when you get close to the line, the finish breaks along the line, rather than chipping away. I did get a small amount of chipping right on the edgeby the lower cutaway, where there is only a narrow strip of wood, but I touched up with some black lacquer and it's almost 100%.
The trick to this is shallow cuts - about 0.25mm each pass and not to cut right to the scribed line in the finish until you are at the maximum depth - then when you finally widen the rout up to the scribed lines it's cutting through more depth and so cuts slower. I also slowed down to about half speed for the last, final fitting cut. It's not perfect (no freehand rout ever is), but it's 99% there.
