It isn't hard to make your guitar look good with very basic equipment (even a cell-phone camera) if you know a few simple things.

These pics were just slightly more complicated than the basics.
But I wrote this blog post a while back to try and improve peoples' chances of selling their guitars on gumtree. The pics are taken on a cheap cell-phone and go a long way to making your guitar look like something you can love:
