I throughout the years have played on various boss pedals, however always seem to find myself removing them from my setup, all thats stayed is my TU2. I have gone through a Boss BD2 a Boss DS1 Boss DS 2 Boss DD3 Boss DD20 etc etc
TO me these pedals seem a bit lifeless, despite there near industructable nature. Kindof like the bare minimum a pedal must do.
When t comes to it I would sooner by a big muff than any boss Distortion, a random delay to a DD anything. What nice boss pedals have you experienced? I have heard older ones are better......
I used to have the Boss DS-1 into a Fender Bassman. It was awesome. I have also used the Metal Zone and Hyper metal to good effect.

Now, as you may know, I use the GT8. I like the delay but for my OD I tend to use the mimick of the Tube Screamer or the Proco Rat instead of the Boss models.
when i was younger (LOL, not that im old now) I used to use the MT2, DD3 and Compressor and i loved them, but as I have aged and metal has become less of an obsession, i have focused more on my true love of straight up rock n roll, ie, good old fashioned overdrive, so for the last 5 years or so i have dropped all pedals and plug straight into my amp using the natural overdrive from the amp. I love it. I recently got a tubescreamer 808 which compliments the sound i like. Dropped all my Boss pedals. actually looking to sell them off...
I have and OD20 which I am in love with... but i tend to use the Blues Driver and the Proco Rat settings the most. IMO the blues dirver is a GREAT pedal, possibly the best Boss OD pedal yet?
The boss pedals are mostly decent designs, although usually neutered a bit to keep prices down - usually if you like the tone from a Boss pedal it can be improved further with a few small mods (PM Matta if that sounds like it's for you).

I quite liked the Blues Driver - it's a bit dull in it's stock form, but modded it's great - one of the best they've done. The SD-1 sounds great, but the bypass is terrible as it leaks the overdrive tone in with the clean (haven't looked, but I'm sure there is a mod for that).

Nothing wrong with a DS-1 either - good to kick an amp and give a bit of a treble edge to a smooth valve drive (ask Vai, Moore, et. al.). Great for the 80s Euro metal tones (Maiden, UFO, Scorpions, etc.) - but it's not a "polite" pedal.

BOSS pedals were made in Japan...then Taiwan...now Malaysia. Does it matter where? some say it does. Why does an MIJ SD1 sell for 2 to 3 times the cost of a new SD1 made in Malaysia?

Cerise Why does an MIJ SD1 sell for 2 to 3 times the cost of a new SD1 made in Malaysia?

Because someone will pay more for it...(for some reason, that I'll likely not understand 😆).

I think ridiculousness of it is exemplified by the Klon. I saw an original one advertised locally for R80k. Um, okay - if you can and you must.

there have been supply issues with components of one kind or other ...but I imagine BOSS would do all they can to maintain quality..as for Klon ..people forget pedals react differently with different amps..
