Hey Vic, thanks for the offer.
Unfortunately I had to clear out my music room and put it into storage for a few weeks to make space for a guest. Will see what I can do, re photos. I should also mention, I took the amp to Dave oxborough, Durban's leading valve amp restorer/ repairer. He said he had previously worked on the amp many years ago. He said the handle ,covering , and speakers were not original, so it probably did have 3 handles originally. Also the diamond cloth has been replaced with a plain black cloth. he has confirmed it as an early 60's. I think he may be wrong about the speakers though, my research indicates early 60's did come with greenbacks? He says they would have been Vox speakers. Plus they look really old to me. What would you look for in a photo to tell age? Could you date it to an exact year?
Thanks for the interest.
Hi, Dave certainly knows his AC30's. The early AC30's ('59-68) never had greenbacks but had Celestion blue or -silver alnico speakers specially designed for JMI/Vox. Although not that efficient, the greenbacks are great speakers. Congrats again...
I would look for a date code on the transformers and choke to date it to the year...also the colour of the control panel gives one a good idea....the serial numbers are unfortunately not a good indication of age.
