I can't believe what people are selling stuff for. But that SG custom for R6,500 the other day (R1,000 less than an Epiphone SG in this forum ???) takes the biscuit.

I can only agree with Singe (of course I will..it's a Gibson ! ? ) I had one like this for many years....it's a great sounding guitar (sold it to a collector). Maybe one can grab it for R7.5K ?? ?

Important to know what the body's actually made of. Quilted maple body my ass. Apart from the vast cost it would be just about the heaviest strat in the world. So is it a cap, or is it veneer?

I dunno... That pic is probably a completely different guitar.
For one, it has a fender headstock logo...
And with the whole custom guitar thing, why is his price so low?
It doesnt make sense, as its definitely worth more, considering the parts used!
My gut feel would be to check it out in person!

Definitely worth seeing in person. But I suspect the headstock logo is one of those sad brand-obsession things where he's bought a sticker and stuck it on. Off-brand partscasters like this are not that easy to sell, which might be why the price is where it is. Advantage is that you could get a Strat made of good parts for a lot less than an equivalent Fender.

Hell, my Pacifica would knock 95% of USA Strats off the block, but I'd struggle to get R5K for it if I ever wanted to sell it I suspect. Name recognition. Brand power. All that stuff.

I knew a girl in Amsterdam who I think makes GAS money by buying Squiers, modding them to make them look Fender USA and then selling them as such. Saw her shop when I bought imported Fender parts from her and thought I figured what was going on. The brand thing is a fact of life, like it or not...

Exactly.
I now have two partscasters and have resigned myself to the fact that I would probably recover more money by selling them for parts.
I love them though, so I'm not going to sell them!

For the Joburg people, I think it's a pretty good deal. A Squier bass guitar + Fender amp for R1500.
