At the price it could be a Chinese fake ?? ??? ???

:-\ , ....I dont think so . I spoke to him about 2 weeks ago , it is a well used 93 or 95 model apparently iirc....and he is the original owner . He further stated he paid 13k when he bought it at that time all those years ago.
I must add that , just to be sure , it still needs to be physically seen and checked out nevertheless , if any one is interested...imo. 8)

:-\ Looks like a fake...

The V is at a wonderful price. Vs are the best bang-for-buck you can get in a Gibson, and this ones like half the price of new.

Dinosaur Snr., why do you think it's a fake? I admit that the price is insane for a '70s SG Custom, but I can't spot anything that says fake. It has a neck volute as you'd expect from a '70s Gibson (the little hump just behind the headstock on the back of the neck). The Nashville bridge too (see how "boxy" the bridge is folks?). The inlays look fine.

If the guitar actually exists for sale at this price, it may be the bargain of the year. I'd check for neck repairs though. But even then this would be an excellent price. In the States people would be asking probably about $2,500 for this guitar. It may also have been refinished, because I'm not sure that they made white SG Customs during that period, but I'm not sure about that.

Dinosaur-Snr

A 70's Gibson this CHEAP must be cheap. hehe ?

This IS the bargain of the year. Someone on the forum PLEASE buy it.

I agree. As long as it's not a scam.

Interested Vic? Your chance to get hold of an SG with serious mojo for the price of a new Epiphone. ?

Also cos you don't have a Custom. I've heard some people refer to theirs as "White Beauties" in contrast to the three pickup LP Customs.

Edit: Vades, wanna go see it, take some more pics for us? Find out if it exists? ?

JeremyE

I think its been refinished. The serial number is faint (even for a bad photo) and the Made in USA sign under the serial is almost not there ate all anymore. If you look at the mid section of the back of the neck the paint is more "worn", could be from playing but I'd also risk at saying a possible neck repair. Other than that you cant see the frets in relation to the binding unfortunately. But it could very well be real! I did see a Cherry red Gibson Deluxe go for 6.5k a few years back in PE and sadly it did not go to me ☹

If it's legit, what should it be worth?

Dinosaur-Snr

About 25k to 30k? Thats what I rate, everything depends on condition, etc.

Its a steal.

Depends on the market. But in the USA, I couldn't see it going for less than $1,600 if it's all in one piece. And I imagine it'd be a lot closer to $2K and could easily go over that depending as I say, on the market (prices of old Gibsons seem to be down due to the recession). The price of '70s Gibsons is rising, and 3 pickup Custom SGs are always a bit on the higher side. I wouldn't stake my life on this, but it's clearly worth vastly more than R6,500.

The tuners look original, so I suspect it might all be stock. But you never know.

Considering having a look, but I am by no means an expert on vintage Gibsons.

Have spoken to the owner, all original except for the pots which were replaced with genuine Gibson articles. I did not ask if it has been refinished, but there is a possibility.

If it's for real and you're not broke, buy it. Simple as that.

There's no question about getting your money back if you decide to sell, and you may be getting the guitar of your life. That would be stupid money for an SG Standard from '73, and these Customs aren't as common. If he's talking about the pots, it hopefully means he's not waiting behind the door with a club to steal your money when you walk in.

Ask him if there are any issues, and whether it's ever had any repairs done. But I'd seriously say, go look at this before someone else gets it.

I will try to find out what the experts know so long.

Edit: Ad's been taken down. Is this still available?

Guitar has been sold. No refinishing had been done, this was a legit deal. (I had gotten the address earlier and we were meeting at a church where the seller works FWIW).

singemonkey

Someone got an insane deal.
