Anyone interest in going in on a Mojotone order?

Hi Guys, I've been intrigued with the Mojotone Amp Kits and am considering going in an a 5F1 or 5E3 kit, call it a Xmas present to myself, or 'research' if my wife asks ? I chatted to Arjun at the last Graemestock and he works for a large international freight forwarding company and am going to chat to him about getting better pricing on flying in gear from Mojotone, hopefully 3-4 times and year and open it up to Forum members. The deal is that I'm not looking to make profit on this, the price you see on their website is the price you will pay, or rather the rand equivalent on the day of exchange. You will also however be responsible for VAT/duties levied on your goods as well as on shipping if you live outside of CPT... and you can offer to buy me a beer for my time for doing all the admin if you feel like it 8) The benefit of doing a 'Group Buy' like this is we all save as we split the shipping costs (which would be based on a prorate of the items weight divided by the total costs), plus going with a freight forwarder it will be MUCH cheaper than shipping USPS/SA Mail or any one of the courier options and to be honest the pricing is MUCH MUCH better than buying local as we are not marking up the goods for retail. Payment for goods would be due BEFORE I place the order as I will have to pay for the goods up front. I will need to check with Arjun about the turn around times and what has to be done my end RE paperwork etc on the shipping side. Is anyone keen? I'd like to see if there is any interest first and then we can set a deadline on it. For those that don't know Mojo is one of the largest suppliers of speaker cabinets in the USA building 800 - 1,000 a month for over 50 different amp suppliers. But aside from amps they offer guitar parts, from preassembled wiring kits to pick-ups, knobs, pots and other accessories, not to mention pedal kits/parts etc. Check them out here: www.mojotone.com Cheers Matt

SUCCESS!!!

Brian got hold of me to say the items did ship yesterday, I have the tracking numbers to prove it and according to FedEx they will arrive 22nd Jan, a month after they were due to ship, Hah Hah!!!! So now I sit and wait for my refund from VISA... GRRR.

Ray, I may still do another order like this, but to be honest I'm not sure I could do it on the same terms, this has taken HOURS of my time to facilitate, alot of admin and I'd need to be compensated accordingly, sorry to have to say it, but I just can't afford to go through this stress and fund it gratis... even now I'm the one responsible for the lack of funds in my card while I wait and am going to be hit with charges because of it.

I'm happy with the service from Tubes & More & Tube Depot, and will use them again, my eyes have been opened to the cost of shipping these heavy items and I've learnt a tone in the process, so rest assured it isn't going to be cheap either way, but cheaper than going it alone.... and not with Mojo!!!

As I shared I paid Tubes & More $150 USD to ship my Jensens via USPS and it took 6 weeks, the combine weight there was 8Kgs, this whole FedEx order came in at $580+ and weighed THREE times that, so USPS for the same weight would be $450, in theory, but take 6-8 weeks to get here, FedEx takes 9 days, granted the actual FedEx shipping as we know should have been over $800 as Brian shared.

If we order items that are easy to pack, like speakers + small parts then it makes it a bit more affordable and freight does work out cheaper, but not as much as I thought.

I know that this has cost us all alot more than we hoped, but be glad you were not the one doing the admin behind all of this ☹

If you are not specifically looking for the Jensen then there is the Celestion Vintage 10.There should be stock of these locally soon.

Got a voice mail on my phone from FedEx, the goods are sitting in Joburg awaiting clearance, will call them tomorrow and give them the documentation they need... feel alot better knowing they are on African soil!!!

On a personal note my credit card it still maxed out ☹ Going to call the bank tomorrow and see if they can expedite it as I need to purchase other goods on it and I can't.

Spoke to FedEx this morning, gave them my importers code (which I knew they would ask for). I've confirmed they have all the paperwork and their totals match mine, it is now onto customs for tariff/VAT charges and then should be cleared for delivery, still anticipating a 22nd Jan delivery if the rest of the process is smooth ?

Ho Ho Ho! Merry VERY belated Xmas, LOL!!!

Well FedEx arrived at my house bright and early, 2 days ahead of schedule to deliver the Mojo Order.

The good news is that the parts arrived in one piece, the bad news is not all the parts arrived :'(

It only affects Gearhead and myself as the 2 parts missing at the NOS Fender Champ Output Transformers we ordered, all the other items are here and been checked against the order confirmation.

Thank you for traveling with 'I'll never order from Mojo again' airlines and we hope you have enjoyed your unpleasant flight >☹

Yeah man, it blows! But you are right, I didn't on charged the shipping for the SB order from me to you, so this way we can just settle it all in a single shipment. I'm anticipating the SB order should arrive in the next 2 weeks and if Mojo pull their finger out their you know whats we should have the OT's in a similar or shorter time frame.

Hey Guys,

Now this is service! I placed and order with Tube Depot on Monday night, 11pm our time, it arrived this morning with FedEx, no questions asked, at my door, all the parts in order... now you know why I love them!

Also one of my other supplier, Tubes & More have just added guitar parts to their catalog from suppliers like Gibson, Bigsby, Grover, Hipshot, Fender and Lace... so even LESS reason to want to use Mojo again, GRRRR.

Oh, and by the way, seem the transformers I ordered were out of stock, thanks for the warning! Only going to get more next week sometime... GRRRR.

Ray I might be, but to be honest I might even do something speaker wise with Tubes Depot.

The Jensen C10R for example is $41.00 at both TD and T&M, but T&M shipping is more expensive with FedEx and Airmail takes 4-6 weeks... Tube Depot takes 4-5 days with FedEx and the BEST FedEx rates because the FedEx international hub is based in Memphis, as are they.

Out of interest I asked my contact there what the cost of shipping my 'Tweed Champ Kit' would have been that I ordered from Mojo and he said $160.00 FedEx, that would have been a much better option to use them over Mojo! A tweed kit weights in a 7.5Kgs, a Jensen C10R is 1.5Kgs, so can't imagine it would be much more than $50 shipping though TD. I'm awaiting confirmation from them...

If I do this again I'm going to have to on charge at least SOMETHING for my time/labour, drinks bill etc! They way I did this was to charge the 7.6% Ad Valorem + 14% VAT, which anyone would have to pay. I'm thinking about setting a blanket fee of 30% (up from 21.6%) + shipping, it also gives me a bit more wiggle room.

I HARDLY think it is profitable for me to maintain this and TRUST me I'm not going to get rich, prob. poorer off of it, but it nice to be offer this service to the community at large and I think despite the problems we had the participants are grateful THEY didn't have to deal with Mojo!

I noticed that Take 2 will still work out cheaper, but takes 12-20 days, I could beat/match them if we shipped Airmail, as they would, but you would have a similar lead time.
