I HATE the sound of EMG's, but . . .

Stoner-Riff

. . . i recently got to jam with my cousin's Duncan Black Out Metal louded Ibanez.

And it kinda blew me away !
It sounds nuffing like the dull and sterile chugga-chugg EMG's that is investing the metal music genre.
Used the above mentioned guitar, into my booteek 4-into-1 custom RAT, into my Bassman (AB165 circuit).

Dear Lord did those Black Outs push that Rat into the sleaziest crunchy OD i have ever heard.
And they are really quite, if not quiter than the SD A2P's in my Gibbo SG at the same settings ?

I am seriously thinking of buying yet another guitar (lil cheapo - Squire maybe ?) just so that i can buy a set of these non-EMG sounding actives from Duncan.

Is there any other fans of these out there in deepest darkest south afrika ?
Any owners of the Black Out METAL versions ?

I think i like these too, because according to the Duncan tone chart on their site, it is much darker voiced than the "regular" set of Black Outs.

BMU

No direct experience but I'd love to try them. They seem to be the weapon of choice on the sevenstring.org forums. Just out of curiosity since I do really like my EMGs too. I have a pickup backlog, still have a DiMarzio Evolution and Air Norton lying around I want to try,so I doubt I'll lay out the cash for these any time soon.

Mmmm, thanx, i hardly ever go to sevenstring.org . . . but i'll have a look wat they say !

AFAIK, Duncan only makes a 7string version of the 'egular' Black Out and not the Metal (darker voiced) version.

Corne

New Here, but yeah.

Blackouts Kick ass.
If Dino and Mick went from EMG's to Blackout then you know they're (SD) is doing something right.

My Ibba (RGR08LTD) came standard out with the Blackout and I just love it.

If you are interested in buying Blackout, you'll have to go through our local agents. The guys on ebay are really stiff about it.
I was looking into some Blackouts for my seven stringer.

WELCOME TO THESE FORUMS MATE 8)

That is good news that some Ibby's are now comming stock w Black Outs !
Would you have a pic or two to post ?
What amp(s) are you running w the Ibanez ?

Frans-B--Cocq

I have the exact Ibanez as Corne, with the Blackout. It's a very nice pickup, even though I generally dislike actives (especially the EMG 81/85 combo - it's a cliché nowadays). I'd never change it if I only played on od/dist, but I need cleans, too... the Blackout's problem is that you just can't get a good clean out of it.

Ay, that's the case - sadly. I'm actually thinking of installing a neck pup into mine.
