One of the best tonewoods for marimba's is an odd wood called Sneeze Wood.
It has two other qualities that led to its demise:
a) It burns with a furious heat - that made it useful for furnaces
b) It's almost indestructible - which made it very useful for fenceposts
Despite growing very easily, it's now endangered.
