Wow - that's some artwork! If you're a beginner all of those fret inlays might be distracting :?Carl wrote:Hi RiaanRiaan wrote: Hi Carl welcome! Yes, I would also agree with what Bob says. Check out the classifieds and Gumtree - there often are good buys. Much better than a nasty cheap guitar with poor intonation etc.
Thanks, on Bob's advice, I've checked out a few shops this week, and tomorrow I'm going to check out a Cort X2 at a shop in eastrand mall. They have a limited edition series also which goes for about R500 more than the standard one. If the limited edition looks anything like this, I'll probably buy one tomorrow ? http://www.cortguitars.com/english/util/newsView.asp?id=165
The other options I'm looking at is a Fender squier, a J&D LP and a Venson (it's got a skull painted on it and the knobs are 2 skulls). There's not much info on the net about the last 2 guitars. I found the J&D, but the Venson is still a mystery, only seen a couple of adds from people trying to sell their Venson Skull Guitars.
newbie, don't even have my guitar yet :)

Stay well clear of the B word. They don't make good guitars. I started out with a Roland Cube 15 and Ibanez GRG150, played on it for a long time.
Well, congrats on your first guitar Carl, hope you really enjoy learning to play.Carl wrote: haha, So I went for a guitar that's not even on my list... SX Pirate PEG3/BK http://www.sxguitarspain.com/sx_pirate.htm heard it... bought it ? Now to learn how to play it !
Must say, I quite like that SG-type, and the Black of course. Btw. did you get your scarf with it? Hahahaha....
I have no idea of the make, but that's neither here nor there........happy learning and playing.......
They give you a pirate scarf, but no parrot?? ?

howdy Dude!! welcome but take Bobs Advice "cheap" or we like to say Inexpensive has a way of coming back to bite you in the ass. 8)

hehe, yeah, "cheap" likes to bite you in the ass no matter what you're buying. I hope my choice was not so bad as it cost R3000 for my SX Pirate and Roland amp. This is my 1st guitar, and hopefully when I've learnt how to play it, I'll be earning or have saved enough for a guitar in the 4k range.Steve R wrote: howdy Dude!! welcome but take Bobs Advice "cheap" or we like to say Inexpensive has a way of coming back to bite you in the ass. 8)
