FEATURE PERFORMANCE - Guitar music from Brazil & Paraguay by Janet & John van Nierop
And this really was very good. And different. I am used to seeing John play bluegrass on a Martin flat-top. Tonight he was playing a totally different style on a totally different guitar - a Harald Petersen classical. Janet, his wife, was playing a Ramirez (Brazilian Rosewood back and sides). They played without any kind of pickup, using an old-fashioned ribbon microphone placed between the two of them.
The tones of the two guitars complemented each other well, and the parts that Mr and Mrs van Nierop played harmonised very elegantly. I wish I could tell you WHAT they played, but I am not familiar at all with this style of South American classical guitar music.
