hey all
i'm in the process of getting back into my practice/learning regimen after a bit of an (unfortunate) lay-off period, and I’m in the process of reacquainting myself with music theory & harmony.
I’m keen to ‘get back into shape’ my knowledge of chord progressions, the modes, and especially using your major/minor/diminished scales to build music (as opposed to just playing lead). Do I just reacquaint with the major scale and diatonic major scale type progressions and go from there? Or the other route is to begin with the 12-bar blues form maybe?
i do know similar topics have been covered in other posts, will search the forum as well.

Hmmm, depends which level you were at before you stopped.
Without knowing, i would say:
*get ontop of the CAGED system (include 6ths, 9ths, sus chords, etc etc).
*learn the major scale patterns
*apply patterns to modes
That would be a good start.

Oh ya, forgot to mention pentatonics. If you go the shuffle 12 bar route, i would say learn pentatonic and "blues" notes/scale.
and keep it real.
