Black metal, death metal the whole thing with fast guitars , insane drumming, it's good - I know it's good - but I think I just reached the generation gap - after so many years!. Maybe this is a major step in music evolution - who knows. Jut cant' listen to it. Satyricon I can sort of get, but some of the stuff I just feel like running away when I see/hear it! ?
It works both ways, I think of myself as kinda old already 24yr. I listen to progressive classical music, progressive rock, jazz fusion and symphonic metal (neo classical metal). Even as a dedicated guitarist, I can't bring myself to listen to classic rock (ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabath etc.) it sounds too predictable and boring. I also can't stand todays "R&B" and "Rap, Hip-Hop" to me it sounds like simple noises strung together to entertain the masses for a few weeks till the next one comes along.
So I think it comes down to a combination of inborn taste and exposure. My mom loves Jazz and classical, so by the time I was 22, when I started guitar, after having Take 5 and Brahms Symphony no. 1 beaten into me for years, I inclined towards a similar style for guitar.
