My amp ;)

Seventhson

I bought a Roland cube30x cosm in 2007 december.
It really is worth every sent, at low volume levels its decent.
It has diffrent amp settings which is very fun to play around with, it really is worth every cent I paid R2500 for it at music connetion.
It makes my Ibanez G10 soung decent.

MikeM

Played a Vox Valvetronix?

Seventhson

no.

Played a Vox Valvetronix?

Seventhson, welcome to the term GAS!

I think the cubes are super amps, but the Vox Valvetronix is in another league.
Go and try one out, you will end up trading your cube for it ?

Mike Mike Mike, not fair comparing the two amps ?
Just kidding, the Vox is the better between the two!

MikeM

Yea you would want something from their XL range for metal stuff..

Man, I sold my Cube60 for the Ad30vt

guitarboy2828

I have a Vox AD30Vt, and am thinking of selling it, pity you live in Jo-burg.

I've played a couple cubes, the vox's do sound better, also have the ability to change sounds easily, which is quite cool! ?

MikeM

How much do you plan to sell it for? I am going to sell mine in like a month when my tube amp is good to go!

inflames

In general the Cubes are amazing amps to start off with. I would buy a cube before a Marsall MG range any day!
Once again we are a cross road, solid vs valve.
I was one of those guys that said: "valve, what ever". Anybody that say that have never played on a valve before!

So to get back to the topic, the cube will kick Marshall MG ass any day IMO.
Seventhson, maybe after 2 yrs of playing give the valves a chance.
If you are after metal, and sounds to be the case: go valve.

There are tons of talk on the Internet that solid state is better for metal, but then look at the metal gods out there.
Can you name one that play solid state? I can't, and I listen to metal 98% of the time (2% afrikaans rock like fokof or Ef-El)

Like a friend told me long ago: "grow a beard and play a valve amp" RIP brother

PeteM

I've got a beard and I play a Cube 60 - do you call that crossover? ?

inflames

Nice Pete, just ruined me and my friends theory ?

Nothing wrong with having a beard and playing a cube ?

We were talking about growing a metal (broomstick) beard ?

PeteM

Might try that. I'm retired now, so I can do what I like.

Seventhson

The thing is I heard That you have to play at loud level for good destortion. Thats a bit of a prob for me. And They a bit expinsive. I want a Tube but I think let me get a better guitar first.

Hmm.. I haven't really thought of it hey.. Maybe R1200? To much? I really haven't priced them in awhile.. What are they going for at this time?

As to the whole "valve vs. ss".. I think the reality is, valve is "better" only to some.. I love the sound of valve, that doesn't mean it's right.. Some major artists don't use valve, funnily enough.. and that is ok.. One needs to achieve their sound with their budget how they can.. Although, not sure I will ever be satisfied with my tone! ? hahaha.. ALWAYS NEED MORE!!!

Seventhson

I must abmit I love the sound of mine. The clean on it very nice.

MikeM

Amp > guitar wrt tone.

Seventhson

sorry this sounds silly whats wrt

MikeM

Sorry ? I assume everyone knows these things coming from a pc forum...

With regard to...

Most important is amp, then pickups, then come all the other things like body wood, pots, shielding, fretboard etc in no particular order. Very subjective so you will never know for certain ?

Seventhson

Thats true my guitar has a single and double coil. the single coil makes the clean tone really nice.

MikeM

Well I meant more in the way how single coils differ from each other, i.e comparison between two strats

Seventhson

Oh ok To be honest I dont really know about the gear to much the shame :'(
