acoustic get together/braai social in jhb lets call it "Acoustic Day"

hello all........ a question how many acoustic players are there on this sitein jhb ... cos i'm thinking of putting together a braai/acoustic guitar afternoon ...either at my place or some other venue......... ( i live on a hectrare so i guess acoustic music won't be a prob for neighbours........ thinking of either a sat or sunday afternoon in october.......... will be free no couvert...... we have a hectare plot and a pool ......... so it's just a social for anybody on this site.......with maybe me also inviting a few acoustic players i know from jhb scene............ i know here in jhb bob is acoustic .so is big mike and maybe we can convince brent to play some of his fingerstyle for us...... would there be enough interest from you guys if i planned this ........ and anyone would be welcome ..... to play this is not a concert but kinda an open mic at home ...and safe parking heheheh we have an electric fence and 4 big dogs hehhehehe if anyone would be interested pm me..and if we have some interest i'll set it up...cos even if just 3 or 4 people play it's all good........ and the only reason i can't do an electric jam is that the plot is only 1 hectare so i do have neighbours........ heheheh so i'm thinking a soft acoustic afternoon with a braai and a pool for the swimmers....... but just cos it's soft con't mean you electric players can't come visit and play some mean acoustic blues....... or in fact electric guitar as long as it's soft .we'll justhave the no overdive/distortion law in place ..........sorry but i do have neighbours......... i have enough gear to set this up ...... but might need some of the boys to volenteer to braai..... for as independant as i am .... afraid i lived in europe too long being able to braai not a skill i have ... but there is a braai drum here .... ok so who's keen ...................????????? and if i can convince a famous acoustic player to come i will ... maybe give a short workshop but thats not a promise but if steve newman or tony or greg is in town and keen i will ask ........ but thats not written in stone......... or else we'll just get Bob to teach us some x rated lyrics and ask mike to demonstrate his baritone guitar .. or get gearhead to advise us on specs for amps that give natural acoustic sound............... oh and if i do it at my house it's in glen austin midrand which is almost exactly halfway between Jhb centre and pta....... so 30 min drive from either side or from east rand or west ..... they don't call it midrand for nothing it's truly central...... and i'm just 5 min from the N1 olifantfontein off ramp ...with easy access from either jhb /pta N1... or R21 for east rand (benoni ) peeps ....... peace and light keira

ok guys and girls........... damn are there any other jhb girls on this site........... damn ...... don't think so .........viccy you better fly up for some moral support ........ but i know a few local jhb female acoustic guitarists who kick arse so i'll invite em anyway ..........

so hows about everyone getting together for the acoustic day and braai at my place on oct 3rd thats a sat ????? hows that cos actually that sunday is cool for me too........... so if anybody has a prob let me know maybe we can shift to sunday.......

ok so i have a venue...my home which is on a hectre plot so plenty of safe parking and i have a pool ......but realise swimming is at your own risk....... .. and i have some gear i can set up ......but i think tailon said he wants to come maybe he can bring that desk i sold him.... heheh i have some powered speakers ect ....and some mic's and a mic stand....... maybe we should organise another few mic's incase the jam session takes off...........

i also have a braai drum ... heheheh Bob has already vollenteered to light the fire........hhehe maybe we can be playing acoustic version of the doors while he does it..."come on bob light our fire..................''

but we will need a few of the lads or now that i'm in jhb let me rephrase that as the 'manne" to vollenteer to braai for us.......... i think it's better if we kinds get it organised up front........

it will be a "bring and braai"......or as they say in pretoria .."tjop and dop' ... as in every person/couple/family will supply their own meat and bring one salad ... the salad to be shared by all.............that way there should be plenty ........ i will supply some bread rolls and a salad from my side too......... and yeah booze.......... bring as much as you like .......... and bring glasses......... i have quite a few...... but might run out and we can't have that...........

oh yeah and this is a musicians home .......... so no underfloor heating or heated pool.........but we do have a big screen tv heheheh but you guys who are from the better suburbs in jhb be prepared you are gonna slum it for the day.......

i will supply a few bags of brickets for the fire...i will consult with our braai technician Bob to what brand he prefers......... hehehh do brickets come in gauges.........

so yeah i sense a fabulous day of soulful acoustic music and great food........... and hopefully awesome company .........

so there you guys and girls and family's and friends now have a formal invitation to my home on 3rd october for 'Acoutic Day" we'll prob aim for a midday start to run all afternoon into evening ........... with noise don't wanna run too late . but hey we'll go with the flow...... but lets make it a midday affair ...... so arrive anytime from midday and we'll braai mid afternoon ........

oh and as i mentioned electric players are welcome if you wanna play and on electric just the "no overdive/distortion ' rule will aply . but at open mic neps did some awesome electric work clean.......... this is not cos we have an issue as acoustic musicians with overdrive.. but for the neighbours this is jhb ... one learns quickly not to make enemies ..cos UP HERE PEOPLE SHOOT AT THEIR ENEMIES............

and of course girlfirends/boyfriends/ kids are welcome even friends who are into acoustic music.................. we are an open minded gay /lesbian friendly household so i expect that no one will have issues with any same sex partners........... and yes we realise kids will be present so i'm sure we'll all behave not to offend anyone ........ but just if anyone is ultra homophobic in any way you are warned a few same sex couples might attend....... strange but most girl guitarists i know are lesbian heheheh not saying all ... just the ones i know....

please just pm me to get my address..... i don't wanna post it in public space......... but i'm off N1 ..olifantsfontein offramp or off R21 too just as easy..................so yeah glen austin ......... midrand.... so no excuses re travelling distance ........i'm in middle between every suburb........

I hope I can make that one, starting a new business and all and still working insipid financials day job is taking it's toll... I dont want you guys to change just to suit me... ☹ at the moment i wing everything. sitting with the attorneys later today and tomorrow to draft the contracts. So yeah I'm touch and go here. The times I know I am avaliable is weekdays after 6 ? if that helps haha

Well, I don't even own an acoustic...but it sounds like fun, if guitarless hobos will be admitted at the gate. Besides, if Aubs, Brent and Bob are going to bring their guitars, I might even be able to outrun one of the three...

Brent, you've introduced me to said Gentleman before. If you bring your Larrivee, he brings his Morgan, I bring my Morgan and the Smoothtalker then we've got a decent helping of good steel-string acoustics for people to ogle. I'd actually be very interested in checking out a Koa Morgan.

Of course Stratisfear, I will bring my acoustics, the Taylor, the Takamine 12 string and the Ovation, but you will have to play them.......again, I don't really play acoustic!!!!hahahaha

IT IS ON FOR SURE.................. THE OFFICIAL DATE FOR ACOUSTIC DAY IS 10TH SAT AT MY HOUSE(KEIRA)

I'LL GLADLY DO ALL THE CO ORDINATING .....AND HAVE ALREADY STARTED ........

ok so far it's a bring and braai.......... aimed to have people start arriving anytime from midday .... with the actual eating of the braai in mid/late afternoon...so have breakfast......

there seems to be a lot of interest and if everybody pitch's should be an awesome day..........

i'll also co ordinate with everyone that food wise.......... everyone brings own meat and drinks......... an each person or couple coming can bring a salad to be shared.........or for the bachelors even go buy 2 bags of simba crisps or some pretsels.......

a braai drum will be there and i (keira ) will supply a few bags of charcoal/brickets..........

ok so what do we need...........

1. we need to get a few vollenteers to actual do the meat ...it'll be chaos if everyone tries to do their own........
so any body see themselves as good at this?????????????????

2. bring glasses.......... i have quite a few but not sure how many people are coming so rather if you coming just bring glasses..........

3. any special spices to cook braai with ...? i don't know i never braai ...... so maybe we just need be sure there's something here... so maybe bring a few along...if we don't need em good but better be safe than sorry .....

4. gear ........ bring your guitar and definitely a cable....... if you have an acoustic amp bring it .......... but i will have some powered speakers here and tailon is bringing a mixer so we should be sorted....for people to plug and play...........we won't be playing loud........ and as i mentioned before electric guitars are welcome.just no fx pedals "NO OVERDRIVE/DISTORTION RULE"

also we would need a few people to bring some mic stands and vocal mics and their cables of course ......... so break out the sm58's

5. we need to get a list of who all's coming......... i will pm you my adress... not wanting it posted openly .......

6. alls welcome kids/wives girlfriends boyfriends whoever ........ i however did point out in an earlier post that some same sex couples might attend .... and yes i have same sex relationships too..........so if anyone has an issue with this please do not come ...as i will not tolerate any homophobic comments or racial slurs in my house........

7. chairs ....... well i have 12 outdoor chairs and some camping chairs and a bench to move around the outside area.... so if we expecting more than 20 people.. maybe if you have em toss a few camping chairs into the boot ... to be used if we need em.......

ok as this gets closer to the date i will co ordinate that everything is set up and we have braai 'technisions" ect and the right gear , chairs ....and hopefully it'll be well organised.......... and i will in last few days post a reminder of what to bring.....

i know this will be awesome.............
