Compared to some, you probably are. Compared to others, you might be a bloody genius. Skill is hard to define because of the huge variety of styles and tecniques. A brilliant fingerpicker might be a horrible shredder and vice versa. Its all relative.
Seventhson
Thats true thanks for that ?

No offence man, but why are you actually posting this topic?
Why do you care if you're "good" or not? That is totally NOT what playing guitar is all about. If I'm better than you, who cares.. You love jamming, you love the songs you can play, ROCK ON!!!!
If you feel like you should be better, then strive harder, work more, practice more..
Play because you love guitar, not because you're trying to earn some points...

+1. Well said! :applause:
It's not a competition it's all about enjoying whatever it is you do. Some enjoy trying to be the "best" player, some enjoy bashing out two or three chords for a singalong around the braai. It's
all good.

Personally, I enjoy bashing the "best" player around the braai (if he/she's better than me, that is). ?
Ja, there's usually something to learn from everyone, regardless of their skill level. I'm often blown away by how much I like what someone else is doing on a guitar, even if, by some measurement or other, they might be considered less technically proficient than I am. It's usually because they're doing something differently from how I might do it. And I love that.

Fair enough it was a silly post sorry

I understand that you want to check your progrss with other players. That's perfectly natural. That's why I like the forum so much. People get to share what they have experienced and it gives more meaning to yours. Even if you don't play the same things.
Two and a half years are still early days IMO. But it sounds like you're self taught so you must realy like and want to play. Can't go wrong with that. And if people say it's good, then take the compliment.
If you feel like you need to take another bigger step then just set yourself a bigger, higher goal. You'll thank yourself for it.

Hi Seventhson,
What are you trying to accomplish musically?
Do you want to play in a local band?
Do you want to play in a international band?
Do you want to be the guy at a braai that blow minds away?
Do you want to be the guy that pickup a guitar and shred peoples socks of?
You can be any or all of the above.
Always remember Your attitude determines your altitude.
Don't doubt yourself, because if you do you WILL FAIL!

Thank you guys sometimes I dought my self

I never doubt myself - I KNOW I'm rubbish !! ?

I'm definitely not rubbish, I just talk a lot of rubbish...........hahahahaha... ?
Lighten up, Seventhson, we only live once, live like there's no 2morrow!!!!! (Now that's no rubbish!!)

I think that you need more ambition. Sure, if you're satisfied with those songs, and think they're enough for you, you're OK with them. But if you want to get better, learn more songs. That's a natural way of getting better, and you'll enjoy the process, too.
By the way, fellow Iron Maiden fan?
Seventhson
I can play alot more songs than that thats just a handfull i know
Yes I can play phantom of the oprah and blood brothers and ghost of navigaters

There is a saying....Whether you believe you can or you can't, you're absolutely right...so either way it's better to believe in yourself because you are absolutely right...... ? ?

*jumps on the bandwagon*
It took me well over a year and a half to start enjoy playing guitar. It was always a race to meet the next goal... to be considered good enough (on my own standards ? )
Then it finally clicked what everyone was on about. Once I had the basic technical skills down, it became fun and a way to express myself. I stopped trying to be the "best" and not make any mistakes, and switched over to just enjoying the music. Instead of trying to do solo's flawless to impress, I'd rather jam a nice easy 3 chord song that moves me. I'm still pushing to learn and play better, but its less of a competitive thing and more of a I want to improve to be able to play more songs.
Seriously man, practice to get the technique down, but for your own sanity, don't compare yourself to others just to compete. Rather compare yourself to them to see if you meet the goals you set for yourself.
Seventhson
Well it took me a year I do enjoy playing guitar sometimes though I compare myself to people like kirk hammet, then I get frustrated.

I suppose this will all add up to that saying
The cup is half full or is it half empty.
If it's half full, you are content because you are happy with your progress
If it's half empty, maybe you are not seeing your progress.
But then again the cup is half full when you are filling it and half empty when it's being emptied.
I know I am confused ?
