Tell me plse, do nylon strings have a shelf life and what would it be? I'll tell you why I ask. For me changing strings is like cutting toenails. Such a sweat, do it only when you have to. That probably makes me a bad man and a sinner on this forum but I cant find a recovery group to help so that's the way it is.
Depends. Some people like the strings when they have anged slightly, some light the brightness of a new set... I like new strings, they sound, look and feel good. I change electric once a month, Acoustic probably every 6-8 weeks, they last a bit longer being coated.
Nylon strings I am sure are the same? I don't have a nylon string.... yet ☹
+1 to what Brent said depends on what sound you like
but i find it also depends on how you play your guitar ....... i change nylon strings every 10 days ..... but i have an aggressive style which abuses them way more than a classical musician would........ and i hit the strings with brush's and other things which damages especially the wound ones..... so i change often ...................
but yeah just for musical sake change the strings least once every few months...... as you guys know i love trwling pawn shops and i buy up nylons mostly for my students....... i ussually find once i change the strings the guitar suddenly comes to life ..without any tweaking on anything else so new or least newer strings make a huge difference............so Ray don't leave it too long between changes....
and as to shelf life .... i guess they can be kept for ages...... cos by deduction many shops store some "specialised' strings that stand on the shelf for years and they sell one set every now and then,,,,,,, i somehow doubt unless you thinking of keeping em for 10 years that shelf life will be an issue..... unless they kept in such a moist place that'll rust them somehow...
peace and light
