First Lesson.....YAY......

I had my first guitar lesson last evening.....Wow, what a revelation..... I've been trying to get to grips with guitar playing and specifically right hand stuff where I have battled to master the basics....??? :'( Having a lesson was like switching the light on in a dark room. In no time my playing was improving......I also now have stuff I can practice and improve on this next week. I'm now seriously fired up and cannot wait for the next lesson..... ? ?

That's not meant to be a slight on anyone, Squonk - hahahahaha. It just means most of us who make a whole or partial living from music in South Africa (especially music teachers) are generally not incredibly well-wheeled...

Seventhson, guy, I think there are good and bad teachers out there, sure, but nobody has to sign a long-term contract, and I think your chances of finding someone good are quite high if you do a little research and ask for opinions around here. Don't be put off by the misconception that those who can, do, and those who can't, teach...

It's possible that there are chancers who are passing themselves off as guitar teachers.

Treat it like you would shopping around for any other service. Ask for referrals, look for feedback on the teacher concerned, try to find out if they have a high turn over of students etc etc. Try asking at the music shop you deal with - they will know teachers in the area and something of their reputations and abilities.

I am just so excited...... :woohoo:

I'm starting to understand what I'm doing on the guitar.....still a long way to go but it feels that the baby steps are starting to pay off and the lessons are doing amazing things for my confidence.

Before, 20 minutes of practice was frustrating in that I had nowhere to go. I can now practice for over an hour and only feel I've just scratched the surface.......

I can now hear notes in my head and find them on the fretboard.....and find the natural progressions from those notes in both whole and semi tones........it's like a whole new world is starting to open up for me.....WOW.....

i know exactly what it feels like, my first 3 months of playing were pretty tough, but after i got use to the rhytmn thing i just kept going from there on and never stopped from that day.

What songs have you learned so far(or started learning)?
