Updated: Official Competition Info (Please check back here once in a while in case we update the rules, info or prizes!) Competition Info: Record a new theme tune for the forum Any style of music is welcome goes but the focus must be on guitar There are two categories - Beginner and Advanced. You choose which category you would like to enter Winner will be decided by a forum poll, voted on by forum members Format: Track count: No limits to number of instruments or tracks in an entry Duration: No limits on duration, but shorter entries will likely get more downloads and listens (and votes) Any audio format will be acceptable, but try use compressed formats such as mp3, wma and ogg Your filename must contain: A or B to denote category (Advanced or Beginner) Your username. i.e. if you are "Fred" and you are entering the "Advanced" category, your filename will be "A Fred.mp3" To submit your entry: Once completed, upload your entry to a file sharing service like www.box.net or your personal web site Once it's uploaded, PM a link to your entry to Alan and also state clearly which category you are entering Rules: Entries close midnight November 30, 2009 Only one entry per member Entries must be your own original compositions. No covers and no soloing over someone else's track Competition is open to all regular GFSA members and moderators. Admins (Alan and Norio) may enter but are not eligible for prizes Prize winners must live in South Africa. Entries are welcome from other countries, but will not be eligible for prizes Prizes The winner of The Advanced category will win a Zoom G2 effects pedal and the winning piece of music will be displayed on the forum for the next 12 months The winner of The Beginner category will win a Boss TU-80 Tuner Prizes Sponsored by www.musicmadness.co.za

What about making a section for the compo for an offical gfsa ringtone , so ringtone lenght , no holds bar . Might be easier for the not so advanced players to enter easily , anything goes ..... What you guys think

Alan - I'm all for your final say over category! I think it's very wise. Especially considering that there are prizes involved - need to ensure people are fairly placed in their categories.

Sorry for the confusion with the rules. Just wanted to get something up so we could get a move-on with this ? Thanks go to Alan for fixing them up!

And the idea for admins to enter but highest non-admin wins is pretty cool. Thoughts, Al?

The Advanced / Beginner catagories, is that for advance guitarting or advanced music, im an average guitarist, but good music producer...so what catagory should i post in???

I would think as you percieve the end result to sound.

+1. Personally, I'm an average guitarist with decent studio skills and I always end up in advanced.

well, i had a listen to the weekly competitions and i recon that you not so average Alan, maybe not a steve via, but better than most of the church bands and local bands ive heard... so combining that with you studio skills, im not surprised you in advanced...

anyways, ill give a stab at advanced, with my beginner guitar riffs ?

Thanks for the kind words, but I'm under no illusions... I do have a few strengths (fingerpicking and rhythm playing), but I'm also aware of my soloing limitations and knock heads with my lack of theoretical knowledge every day. Unfortunately I suffer with a much higher level of appreciation skills than playing ability.

Having said that, at the end of the day it's all about the music produced and simple stuff with no great playing ability can be just as effective (if not more so) if done in time, in tune and with a bit of taste. The right thing at the right time is far more important to the music than all the technique at the wrong time.

I will be uploading my song on sunday.
I basically just did a improv thingy. a friend of mine wanted to make a video for youtube while i record, so i had to do the whole lead in 1 take.
i'll upload the video once the compotition is over.

Would like the hear what other people come up with.
