Its got one of those older style tele bridges with the 3 saddles. It doesnt have "allan screws" to adjust saddle height, but regular ones that stick out a bit. I think that's what the chrome plate cover is for. to protect your hand. Also the strings dont go through the body, so i need a solution that will work without modifying the body.
The original strat and Tele designs had covers for exactly that reason. ? The
Schaller 475 is a good quality top-loading hardtail:
If you want something more traditional looking, you would have to get a normal hardtail and either have the through-body string holes drilled (and add ferrules) or you could have a hardtail bridge drilled so that you can topload the strings (pretty easy to do for someone with the knowhow).
Maybe the tuners are also slipping a bit?
Almost certainly in a guitar of that age. The tuners are also (IINM) the covered type, rather than the sealed and even the sealed tuners only give you 15 years or so with regular use.
Tuners, bridge and maybe nut and string trees (I would) - a fair bit to do to a R300 guitar, but if you really like it (regardless of what it is, how old it is or what condition it is in), it's worth doing up.
