I'm going along. I'm getting there about 7 so I have time to eat and can grab a slot for myself.

yep i was there and played too... so did bob and big mike .... and was a fabulous night........ bob did a great song the one chord wonder "put the lime in the coconut" which went down a storm......... Mike and richard played some awesome guitar and slide duets........ and i did 3 songs off my new cd..... a ragtime an african and a cuban inspired piece...all original compositions of course ..

and unless someone was hiding in the shadows i know of no other GF members there........ but there was a fabulous band where the guitarist ..who played some nice nylon jazz...also played banjo and mandolin.and all with a fabulous touch....and he was joined by a female vocalist who had a fabulous presence and voice..... who sang a jazz song ....there was steve van staden playing some blues to end the show........ and werner played a country song off his bands new cd........ and ernie did a few songs...... ok who did i miss... oh yes stephan or stefan not sure how to spell it biut he played some originals which all had quite a morbid twist but was a great songwriter.... well worth seeing ..........apologies if i missed anyone.... but it was a night where the open mic standard was relatively high....... shows how many good muso's are into acoustic music in this town.......

anyway a good time was had by all.......

          peace and light

I thought Mike and Richard played very well. Mike especially played with great attack and timing.

The song you refer to was "Coconut". It was written and performed by the late Harry Nilsson.

Brother had a coconut he bought it for a dime
Sister had another which she traded for the lime
She put the lime in the coconut drink it all up

            Got a bellyache
Called the doctor and woke him up
            etc etc

And it's true - one chord. If you had a loop station you could play 2 bars and then set the repeat going.

Let the record show that I wore my GFSA beanie whilst performing and made sure everybody knew the URL.

Thanks, Norio and Alan. No need to cross the cheque.

And they were oversubscribed. Despite packing the schedule as tightly as they could and hurrying along (I went on nearly 30 minutes ahead of schedule) they had to turn performers down.

"Orange Colored Sky" originally performed by Nat "King" Cole. That song, anything of that genre, requires a good sense of swing, and the lady in question certainly had that.
