  • Cort G260 - I desperately wish to fondle one In Greater JHB area

In the market for my first electric busy trying to whittle down to a short list anyone know of any stores in Jhb or surrounds that currently have stock of this for me to fiddle with? I've only seen it on www.muz.co.za thus far.

Anyone currently have one able to comment on your experience with it?

Any help would be much appreciated!!
You'll probably have to phone around the JHB shops to find who has one, but start with Marshall Music.

The G260 is a great guitar for the money. It's normally the guitar I recommend when someone asks me what to buy. Well built, nice woods, good looking, good range of sounds, nice bridge, even the pickups are decent - which is very unusual in that price range.

In short, I can't recommend it enough.
High praise indeed.... I actually read your review of the VT model which is what got me lookin at the Cort in the first place specs look pretty much identical what are the differences between the VT and the G260? Except the dead sexy natural wood finish? ?
Well, Cort do the G260 in OPN (natural) finish too. The black is actually quite sexy too.

        Otherwise:
Fingerboard: G260 OPB (black) has rosewood vs. the G-VT's maple. The G260 OPN has a maple board too.
Bridge: G260 has a Wilkinson licensed VS50 vs. the more traditional (but still 2-stud) model on the G-VT.
Pickups: G260 - Mighty Mite (older models), Duncan designed (newer model), G-VT - Lace Sensors
Tuners: The older G260s had locking models like the G-VT. The newer G260 has normal diecast non-locking tuners.

Otherwise they are basically the same guitar. I'd say if you can get an older G260, you're smiling - the only difference are the bridge and pickups.

Many thanks for the help ;D flew my rear end to Cape Town Played a half a dozen guitars and have to say the the G260 really is versatile axe.... Long story short picked one up => a nice cherry sunburst will post some pics in the coming weeks.... Pick ups are Seymour Duncans but definitely not those currently shipping with the G260 the only thing i've found on the net that look similar are the Duncan cool rails.... was just wondering if anyone knows what these might be as The cort site only gives the spec of the current release....
I've seen those Duncan designed pickups (which are basically Rails pickups made by Mighty Mite) in some of the older Corts of three or four years ago - in the "S" range I think. The G260 was available in sunburst a year or so ago. Did you pick it up secondhand or new?
Picked it up new at Bothners in Claremont
I've also seen the same guitar at Matt's Music here in JHB. Cherry Sunburst, Ash Body from what I could see. Wilkinson Trem (VS-50 I think). Was thinking of buying it, but haven't been to their store in ages, so it might not be there anymore.

Haven't done German in quite a few years :? but methinks that sounds bout right...
Sorry that link wasn't supposed to do that!
Yep that's me axe... ;D Many thanks for the help Mr. M
Ahh. Yes I've seen and played those. That's the older one they stopped making three or four years ago. From the serial, the one in the pic was made in 2001 (the first two digits), so must have been old stock. It's a proper Gotoh made Wilky VS-100 - better than the licensed VS-50. Pickups are all right, but I found them to be a bit compressed and strangled compared to real single-coils. The roller nuts tend to give problems in the long run, becoming noisy.
Ah thanks, yeah actually liked the warmth of the pick ups compared to the full on single coils as i was looking for a bluesy kind of sound.
Due to a motor vehicular mishap :'( i don't see myself investing any more cash on gear for a coupla months at least. I take it you'd recommend a graph tech nut of some sort as an upgrade. What would you reccomend from a pick up point of view for a blues rock (john mayer on continuum) kinda sound...

Oh yes meant to ask yesterday where is Matt's music now ??? I'm living out on the West Rand and i've seen the sign leading me very fruastratingly to there previous home in a mall now filled by SARS but no one there can tell me where they moved....
                              Hey, got this off http://www.mattsmusic.co.za/

The centre is sort of in between Clearwater & Hillfox, according to one of my colleagues here that lives in Roodepoort. Haven't been to the new store myself yet.

                              There's also a map: http://www.mattsmusic.co.za/map.pdf

                              That help?

                                Ahh, yeah - I relate.

Not until you need to replace the Wilkinson roller when it starts giving problems - it requires a bit more than just a nut swap as part of the fingerboard needs replacing too.

Fralin Blues Specials. Fender Fat 50s or Custom Shop '69s. Noiseless: Kinman Blues for blues (strangely enough ?), Woodstocks for Hendrixy Blues/Rock.
Thanks again for the help i'll look you up when my pockets are lined again and i'm looking to change me pick ups....

Ps. Picked up a copy of ya book for the flight home... Can't recomend it enough to anyone thinking of touching an electric guitar (would probably have made more sense to read it on the way too buying me guitar than on the way back in retrospect - but we live we learn)
