Very annoying article. It tells us that George Washington had an axe but doesn't say if it was Gibson or Martin or whatever.

Alan, I think the "build my own" should be removed......it's not a BRAND!!!!!!!!!!

Brent, the whole idea was originally about specific mass-production BRANDS!!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps I should have been more specific, but I'm sure we all KNEW what this was about!!!!!
I really could'nt care what's in the lead. ?
I also cannot believe that no one would choose a GIBSON, or EPI.(Gibson brand)!!!!! Wow.......

Made from Cherry Wood? ???

That's always intrigued me (I tend to think that as my body has changed every last cell at least four times over and my identity remains constant I'm still the same person). However, it doesn't apply here - it refers to one item with changing parts.

Not a single brand no (but then neither is "other") - but it asks an interesting question: given the choice would you rather have one of the major brands or would you choose to build your own?

I'm sure someone will - give it a chance. I would certainly never choose one - any vague threat of that was cured by fixing them for years.

OK. Just for kicks (just asking opinions):
What if I gave Brent my Strat, and all the parts he's currently having delivered were slowly assembled into it (with the parts of my guitar removed), until he had the guitar he'd ordered? They'd all fit (hypothetically - I know he's not after three bolts ? ) and are, quite possibly, part-for-part equivalent (same look, same design, same size, everything). Would he have a Strat (a Fender-registered trademark), even if it's not my one?

"Other" would refer to other "popular" mass-produced brands.... Carvin, Crafter, Dean, Yamaha, etc.....

What do you think Stratisfear?

Well, eventhough I'd like a custom build, I'll go more in line with the idea behind the poll.. If you asked me this question 7 years ago, I'd have said Gibson (thus I had one), then 3 years later I'd have said PRS (I still like, but never had one), now...., ummm Fender!! As I've matured as a person and player over the last few years I've come to realize I can get way more out of my Strat than I could out of any of my other guitars. The only thing I need now is a Fender Tele!! And maybe a E355, and then that PRS, and I'd still like a 57' LP, and while I'm at it that Parker has always looked at me saying 'buy me'.. mmm seems like I'm still not too sure what brand I really want..
But for now.. FENDER!! Maybe when I'm a bit older and after leaving my youthful stupidity behind, I'll go back to doing the more mature thing and buy myself that MusicMan Bass and a Ludwig drumkit..

Well, I'm out to see what other people think, but the opinion I expressed already is that Brent wants a Strat, not some unique, newfangled design. And, for me, for this poll to have any purpose, that should be classed under Fender (because, once he's built it, it'll look and sound like the Fenders he's come to love, not an Ibanez). I'd also like to know, then, at which point modifying a Fender, for example, would turn it into an "I've built my own" guitar. That, for me, is where this poll runs into difficulty. There's a section in that Theseus' Ship analogy where they say the origin of the parts, or who modified the ship, is not an issue because technically it could've been done by the originators of the design/the first builders. Which, in any Stratocaster design, would have been Fender.
However, Alan raised an interesting point in that, perhaps (and against my thinking), some people might still choose not to build their own ideal guitar (from whatever brand template) and want one from an existing supplier. In which case the poll would still be interesting. I changed my vote from Fender to Build my own, BTW, because technically, if given the choice, I'd go for the best components I could in assembling my Strat.

Hi Fender- and "Do it yourself guys" ...you're allowed to vote only ONCE...! hehe
Gearhead
Which is why I did not vote for Fender, lol
bENDER
ESP Explorer [Natural wood] and the B.C. Rich Warlock [Black].... :-[....WICKED COOL AXES!!!
I have always wanted to build my own AXE, but not a "DIY Kit"....from scratch, something that'll make me happy. ?
vic
C'mon Gibsonites ! Show your support for the "secretly most wanted" brand on the planet -- don't let these Fender and DIY guys confuse you...
dee
I chose Fender of course. Even though I would like to build my own guitar to my own specs, it would still be mostly based on a Strat, both in terms of looks and construction.
Heath
i choose build your own , mostly cos you know then what you are getting , you can have the very best of everything and eric clapton will be saying "oh my greatness a coleman orginal , i am so gassing now"
