My irrepressible organisational habit and sucker-for-punishment mentality have brought us to this... Following on from our hopeless failure to match the Cape Town guys for doing instead of talking, I figured I couldn't think of any clubs or club-owners who'd be amenable to letting GFSA commandeer a whole room for the night, so I've had a chat with a friend of mine who runs a rehearsal room/studio in Florida Glen (just off the N1, near the 14th Ave on/offramp) and he says he's willing to let us in on whatever night everyone thinks is best, once a month or so. He'd supply beer and the place (beer for purchase, mind), and there's a drum kit and bass amp there, so we could invite whoever we'd need to sit in. It's not a huge place, but it'd be a venue with all the gear needed, and there probably wouldn't be hordes of us anyway. So, what I'd want to know is how many people think they'd be keen, when would be the best night, etc.

Word of advice, if there's a cover charge dependent on the number attending, you need to give fair warning so that the guys can book and confirm. If only 5 pitch it changes things to R40pp.

hello yeah .......... money is never an issue and even R40 is cool if it's that badly supported...... but time might be........

for me a few things ........ 1. please advise ahead of time to the content of the meeting.... as i said in previous posts i'm a non drinker and not a rock fan and in fact really loud music i won't even listen to ... my ears have enough tinitus i'm protecting em hehehehhe so yeah if you having a talk or demo 1st on whatever subject PA /sound/technique/ i will definitely come for that .... but might leave before the rock jam... or if you have an acoustic jam ... thats fab.... sorry old age kicks in here..... but if you planning on just drinks and a rock jam....i'd rather not come ..... distance wise from me it's a 80 km round trip........... to gordon rd..... i know that for sure cos one of my lovers lives there and i drive it often... so not a problem to drive if there's "honey" involved but too far to come for a short chat .......

as for this monday.. i see in my diary i'm booked from late afternoon into evening with no end time set to do a jazz guitar studio session ......

so this monday 17 is out for me......... so maybe you guys do the metal demo and jam this month and i'll catch the next months one.......

also monday 7th sept is Radium songwriters night...which many or most of you should attend and play at ..... so i commit to that too....

yeah but i hope this happens..... and it has my support

I'll set it up for this coming Monday, and hopefully enough people can make it. I figure the schedule for the first night is not a massively pressing issue (and others seem to echo that).

I think anyone who does attend will just have to have an open mind about music and the way the get-together pans out. I don't see any reason at all why anyone should have to stay away, and I don't see the logic in saying, "Come to my gigs," but then, "I'm not coming to yours. I don't like the style." I'm sure everyone will be accommodated.

Right, it's confirmed: we have the place booked from 6 - 11 on Monday 17th August. Bring your own booze and any instruments/amps/gadgets you think we'd like to check out/possibly break/fight over. There should be a drum kit and bass amp set up, and I will work on bringing a bass player. Alternatively, I will bring a bass guitar and we can draw straws from time to time. I think we should aim for 7 pm?

The address is 4 Tino Place, Florida Glen (for those of you with GPS). Turn off at Gordon Road from the N1. If you're coming from the south, turn right over the bridge; from the north, turn left into Gordon Road. At your FIRST LIGHT, where there is an Engen, turn RIGHT. Then, take your FIRST RIGHT again (about 100m on). Then, take your FIRST RIGHT again (about 25m on). The road in front of you will split right and left - stay left, and as you come around the corner there will be a GREEN PALISADE GATE, with a driveway uphill. For those of us who get there early, there is some parking inside, but it probably fits only four cars. Otherwise, we'll have to find places in the (quiet) street, unfortunately.

EDIT: Yes, of course people can spectate and simply ogle some gear.

No problemo. I've been assuming, of course, that Neps will be there. If for some reason he can't make it, I'm sure either the owner or I can sit in on drums for a while, for the jam portion of the evening. Otherwise, there's somewhere to stand outside and yak, there's the desk/recording setup with Guitar Rig that Brent and whoever else might like to play with/check out a demo of, and there's the reasonably sized rehearsal room where we can check out all the goodies and make a little noise.

haha.. I'll try my utmost best to help out. I found it's a bit of trial and error, but when you get it down, it sounds leke.
