My irrepressible organisational habit and sucker-for-punishment mentality have brought us to this...
Following on from our hopeless failure to match the Cape Town guys for doing instead of talking, I figured I couldn't think of any clubs or club-owners who'd be amenable to letting GFSA commandeer a whole room for the night, so I've had a chat with a friend of mine who runs a rehearsal room/studio in Florida Glen (just off the N1, near the 14th Ave on/offramp) and he says he's willing to let us in on whatever night everyone thinks is best, once a month or so. He'd supply beer and the place (beer for purchase, mind), and there's a drum kit and bass amp there, so we could invite whoever we'd need to sit in. It's not a huge place, but it'd be a venue with all the gear needed, and there probably wouldn't be hordes of us anyway. So, what I'd want to know is how many people think they'd be keen, when would be the best night, etc.

Hey Stratisfear.......sounds good.
I'd be in for either a Monday or Thursday evening. Tuesday can be an option as well but I sometimes get involved at church on a Tuesday.

I might be keen. Though not if it's going to be a metal-head electric axe type affair. I don't have the gear or the repertoire for that.

Well, that'd be the thing - we'd have to make sure it accommodates everyone. As far as I know, though, the Cape Town guys have managed that. *shrug*

What am I saying?! Neps will be obliged to be there!

It could also be fun, interesting, educational etc etc to have some structure to the evening or part of the evening. EG talks on sound and PA related issues... how to work with monitors, how to cope with the fact that things sound different on stage than when you're sitting at home on a sofa, how to get the best out of your effects. Maybe even get somebody to do a presentation on a player they thing worth doing a presentation on, with notes, tracks played from CDs etc.

I was about to say 'I'll drum' but you jumped the gun.. ? I'm keen as always to make noise and wear my pink shirt in public (yes, I WEAR PINK AND I'M PROUD OF IT!!)

The guy who runs the place is also a drummer, so it's settled then - the night will, at some point, have to feature a Drumming Deathmatch. I can bring along a bass player. He doesn't really speak English, but then, he doesn't have to because he's totally freaking awesome.

Sounds like it's going to be fun......... ? ? :woohoo:
mattayou
NEPS plays Bass now ?
MikeM
I might be able to head that way on a Monday but definately if it happens on a weekend. Varsity is a bitch
Neps
Matt, I do play Bass, but when Strat said 'I know this bassist who is VERY good' I decided to not even bring up that one. It's much easier to just go 'ummm, I know where G is on the bass' and then just stand back and watch someone slap that bass into submission.
Lethe
I'm in if the event starts after 6 preferably a bit later depending on the day due to work. But I'm really amped.

Preferably Tal Wikenfeld. And especially if she's saying things like "you
bad boy. Take
this!"
Watching Stanley Clarke or Victor Wooten just isn't the same.

Hahaha. The guy I'm thinking of is very young too (he's pretty good now at 20, so I fully expect him to be a monster in a few years), but Tal would be more fun to have around, you're right. I'll make some calls, check her diary, you know...
Heath
hey count me in , I would even be willing to try my hand at bass...... any night is good for me
racman
I'm in but will only observe due to my guitars being much better than my playing. ?

So the votes that have been cast so far tend towards a Monday. Does this suit most people?
racman
I'm OK with a Monday
