Hey. It was exciting to find an SA guitar forum.
I've been playing for a long while, but I recently got serious about improving my playing technique - doing the kind of practising I should have done at 14 - when grunge was a big deal and everybody told you practising would make you sound like Yngwie. :?
So I've become interested in gear again, all the details, and even got a little GAS going. I've got an 80's Les Paul Deluxe with P-90 single-coils and I got to thinking I want a humbucking Les Paul with a Bigsby arm for blues and rockabilly. Then I started finding out what Gibson's really been up to production standards wise and started researching Tokai guitars - which is how I was able to tell "Tokai SA" about this forum. From the reading I've done, I'm really hoping to see his awesome guitars in a lot of hands in the future - including mine.
I've got a made-in-Japan Yamaha Pacifica 904 for Fender style stuff, especially for surf-guitar. I use an old Fender Bassman 10 - silverface Fender with 4x10" speakers. Tubescreamer, Fuzz-face, Vox wah, Holy Grail verb.
I've got too many infuences to really talk about. I guess I first wanted a guitar because Jimmy Page was coolest thing I'd ever seen. But currently I'm writing songs in terms of Bukka White, Roy Orbison, Nick Cave with the idea of doing some shows sometime late next year. But to improve my chops, I'm mostly listening to Mick Taylor, early Eric Clapton, Brian Setzer. Also occasionally working on my banjo playing, bottleneck slide, travis-picking, and some classical stuff.
I'm interested in getting a better understanding of the current live-performing scene in SA, where to find a guitar tech you can actually trust to know a headstock from the tailpiece (I've encountered some who might find that confusing), and just who does what around here. I've already learned a lot here just lurking ?
