fender blues junior from sweetwater

hi guys. needing some help... I'm looking to buy a fender blues junior amp. was quoted (best price) R10 000 from the local dealer. on sweetwater these amps are $500. add $120 shipping and 14%VAT and we're looking at around R5600. Am i missing something here? Is there a massive duty on amps? The SARS list of duties seemed to suggest it was duty-free. an issue is the sweetwater will be amp is set for 110V. Is this easy to correct once it arrives and how would it be done? Thanks so much! Dan.

The whole thing sux if u ask me. You get the feeling because we are right at the bottom of the world and don't have a huge market we get screwed big time and no one gives a damn.

I've imported a lot of stuff from sweetwater and am looking at buying an ac30 at the moment. I bought some in ears a few years ago that would have cost me R8000 here and cost me R4000 total from the states. The local prices for vox have just gone through the roof. R30 000 retail for an ac30h2 as apposed to $2000 on sweetwater.
Some stuff isn't too bad here, i picked up a good deal on some boss pedals a while ago and actually worked out only slighty more than importing.

I don't think anyone is saying we should expect the same prices as oversees, most people would be prepared to pay a bit extra and support the local stores and distributors, but come on in most cases it's not just a bit more we are getting thrashed!

Shipping from EU for my peavey 6505+ head would have been close to R4000.
So I opted for the cheaper and it was sent via state mail. The issue is that it has been 1 month and 2 weeks, still no amp ☹

Flames that must worry the life out of you. Do you at least have a tracking on it?

Or is it one of those,... Your item has left the EU on x of x 2009... and then just pray it gets scanned in at Durban harbour sometime so you really know where it is...

I would have a heart attack, I phoned the post office everyday for 2 weeks when my strat neck body and parts where on the way. EVERYDAY!!!
