I think last night was the last straw for me.
What is happening is that I am playing bass, and I get unlekker vibes form the guitarist. He and the keys player play together at church.
I'm always open to suggestions when I play, in fact I welcome them, but if I don't take it I will say why as well, I try my hardest to be nice about it too.
now these 2 okes brought their whole church band to our practice. I can handle people at a practice, but when they start getting involved, and telling you what to do I do take offence. Yet I still kept quiet last night.
After we were done all these ous got on the instruments an started jamming it up, but like really well rehearsed stuff.
we are hired musos, ie we are not the main members of a band, we are playing for a singer. My perception is that these okes are trying to show that there are better guys than the drummer and I. am i mal? or should I just oull out. I dont feel good about it at all,
I'm not to keen on situations like that.. If the other blokes were friends, then it's cool if they pitch up.. But if they are not part of the set up, then they should keep their mouths shut!
If yo are also getting paid for the gig, it's VERY uncool from the singers side not to have said something about it, and allow such a thing to happen.. One thing some people should realize is that SA cities are small ponds, and you can't go around making enemies.
I'd have packed up that gig a long time ago. I'm in no way diplomatic enough to have other people come to rehearsals and comment on them if they have other interests at heart. But politics in bands will always be there. I'm not going to comment on the church band politics, cause that may be left for another forum all together, but one thing is certain though.. Put a few musos in the same room, and have NO ground rules, and there will be trouble..
People say bands are democratic.. jip, they must be. But like any democracy, there should also be rules, and accountability towards each other.
