I was just wondering how many guys and girls on the forum plays in a band? What is your band called, what type music do you do, do you earn good money and where do you gig?

I played in a few bands over the past years, most of the time we did originals. Me and some mates recently started a cover band, we're still on the promoting side of it, but things are looking good and we've already got a few gigs coming up. I find it a bit easier promoting a cover band than an original band.
    I play in 3.

Swell band - A cover band. Generally relaxed, more corporate then pub venues. Simply Red, Lionel Ritchie, some fleetwood mac in the mix. Thats the general vibe. I play Lead guitar (ok the only guitar...)
Cycle 26 - A hard rocking 5 piece. This is the most fun I've had in ages. It is testing my crativity and makes me work hard at my technique. Keep an ear out for this. (lead guitar)
Nelisa Kala - Nelisa is a DJ on ECR, she has a great voice and I play bass in her band. I have a few gripes about this band though. They (not we) are the least "professional" (as far as attitude goes) but have the best chance of getting airplay. Nice grooves though.

I'm looking for more? Even session work... lemme at it
      yeah i do,

i work professionally as 1.  a solo artist (doing original world music and jazz standards under my name
                                          Keira Witherkay)
                                     2.  in a Jazz/world music duo with Jazz vocalist Alicia again we go under our names
"Keira WitherKay & Alicia... Acoustic Jazz"
      3.  I also have my Duo with jazz violinist Kristel Birkholtz again we just use our
                                          names

      4. and lastly i have my full band which is me on guitar , Alecia on vocals max Kilroe  smith on drum kit  and Glen muldrum on a full latin percussion setup and then also when needed add in kristel on violin and/ or  a flautist     this band is called the "Keira Witherkay Acoustix Project"

all the line ups  are active on the Jhb music scene and Pro and are  performing a repetoire of my original world music (Flamenco/classical/cuban/latin american/african/morroccan/indian/ragtime/celtic/arabic/early romantica style/ nu folk)      and then jazz standards done in our "acoustic' way

      peace and light
      Keira
I have an original band called Soulfire ( www.rhythmrecords.co.za/music/106/Soulfire/Soulfire ) we play folk and acoustic rock. Had one single on Radio 2000, but made no cash. Made a bit of money from doing theme track for BBC - "cooked in africa" on Satellite TV. Currently recording third album.

I also do some original solo work ( http://www.davestarke.co.za ) and I'm a pub muso to improve my awful teacher's salary!!

        Cheers!

My wife and I have a duo called Synchronicity.

Play on the cover circuit in the Western Cape, doing all the songs you'd be expected to do in that format/genre. Everything from Elvis, Pink Floyd, Beatles to Lady GaGa :-[. I do, however, tend to slip in interesting covers when the audience (and my wife) aren't watching - like Roxy Music, Al Stewart, etc.

              Band site (repertoire, etc) below:

Hi Bongani and welcome to the forum.
I reckon it would be a good idea to introduce yourself on the introductions section of the site outlining in more detail who you are and what you're planning to do. This is a very friendly site and if you give us more info I'm sure you'll get a more positive response from the members.
Good luck in finding the talent you're looking for.
PeteM thanks my man, now how do I do that just send me the link to that Forum and thanks! 8)
Go to introductions but be careful to read the rules and all first because there are some.

See, some of us are a bit wary of these sort of approaches out of the blue. Few years ago I responded to one and ended up being an exotic dancer in a nightclub in Vladivastok for nearly six months.

Ray, Ray, Ray. Do you really expect us to believe that without you posting photographic evidence?
Sorry to hear Ray...but I had to stand in for Keith Richards for nearly 3 months on a Canadian tour...!

Click on the words GUITAR FORUM on the left hand corner of the banner (not the logo) and this will take you to the main index page. There you will find a number of headings including the RULES and INTRODUCTIONS.
