Beausoleil - The Very Best of Beausoleil

You're all going "huh?" Beausoleil are a band from Lafayette, Louisiana headed up by Cajun fiddle great Michael Doucet and his guitar playing brother David Doucet.

I don't understand where "cajun" ends and "zydeco" starts. To my ears there are some zydeco elements to what they do, especially the accordion-driven grooves and a bass/drums rhythm section. Both Doucets are fine players.

I missed these guys at the Meltdown festival in London last year, and I wish I'd been able to make it. This is fabulous music for cutting a rug, and even a square, nerdy type like me would probably have found his foot tapping.

The Little Willies - The Little Willies. Keira mentioned them in another thread, so the title caught my eye in Musica. (Markdown to R39 nogal.) I am really enjoying this. Great musos doing what they love and having a great time while they're at it. This is a real hidden gem imo. Very much country-ish, but also kinda jazzy with a touch of class.

Well I dug out a couple of things I haven't listened to for some time.

1) Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Damn the Torpedoes I haven't listened to this for years. What impresses me now is how the Heartbreakers are a BAND and play as band, as a unit. They seek to serve the song and work together for overall effect rather than stand out as soloists.

2) The Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion . I used to be very big on this album. I'm not sure I'm as impressed with it now, though I am greatly attracted to Rich Robinson's rhythm playing.

Do yourself a HUGE favour and pick up the latest Crowes "Before the Frost... ...Until the Freeze", I've got a feeling it'll be right up your alley. "Croweology" is also a fantastic semi-acoustic collection of theirs...

Have been watching Joni Mitchell "Painting with Words and Music". A live concert from 1998.

She seems to play a Parker Fly throughout the whole concert with some definate alternate tuning. An intensely good band - Brian Blade, Mark Isham, Larry Klein, and Greg Leisz.
Really enjoy her Voice, Poetry and Guitar Playing

No, the one you're referring to is Hunky Dory. There were at least two copies of that in Durban, so there ?

This was the original cover, but due to the controversy it caused it was later released with a black and white cover of Bowie kicking his leg in the air. in 1990 the original cover was rereleased!
