What tune in your playlist/radio are you listening to currently? I'm digging Danzig so far.

Abba - Best Of

Stop that sniggering in the back of the class! Let me tell you, this is some of the best produced, most finely crafted pop music you will ever hear (still, after all these years) and Frida and Agnetha could really, really sing.

Murder in My Mind!! That and Two Left Feet, some of the best songs of last year (when was the album?)

+1 on the ABBA Bob.

Haven't heard Medicine County yet... 'You Can't Buy a Gun When You're Crying' was 2007.
Think I still prefer Truely She is Non Other (2003)..love the sound of that recording.

+1 ABBA :goodtimes: rocks!

awesome vocal melodies and arrangements. their songs are quite complex actually. (especially compared to most dumbed down pop today)
Fernando still puts me in a weird melancholic mood everytime I hear it.

Richard Thompson - More Guitar!

This is one of the "not for retail" releases that Thompson has made available via his web site (CD or digital download) and at gigs. It's a recording that his engineer made straight off of the sound desk at a show in 1988. Thompson and his band (including fab backing vocalists Christine Collister and Clive Gregson) are caught in fine form and Thompson's soloing (and there's plenty of it here) is exceptional even by his own standards.

Rival Schools - United by Fate. So chuffed that they are releasing another album next month

Well, I wouldn't say Abba rocks, exactly, not in the classic, musical sense of the word. But there are few people who could disagree with the statement above about their music being some of the most finely crafted pop music ever. All you have to do is take a look at the vast demographic differences in the audiences who still flock to Mamma Mia, and respond to the music the way folks did when it first came out. Heck, friends of ours have a three-year old who bops to Abba like it ain't no thing. I've seen the stage show twice and the film version a few times, and it's still good entertainment. Mostly because of the music. The story's average; the music holds everything together.

It just goes to prove that old adage - you don't got nothin' without a hook. And Benni and Bjorn were (and still are) masters of the art.

I must agree, I've grown to appreciate their music over the years and understand what Bob and you say when you talk about finely crafted music.
Anyone wanting to learn how to write music should study their material.

To me the soundtracks and the covers prove just how good Abba, and especially Frida and Agnetha, were. The Mama Mia soundtrack isn't a patch on the real thing.

I saw a documentary on TV some time ago that had Pete Waterman of Stock, Aitken and Waterman talking about the great Abba hits. He'd tried to recreate them for some show or other and said that the biggest problem was finding the singers.

Oh, agreeeeeeeeeed. The point was just that telling the story wouldn't have been much without the music behind it. The girls were great, the guys were great, all four together were greater still. Hmm. Reminds me of another couple of foursomes I might remember somewhere back in the annals of musical history...

Yip, really good album. Mr Cave just seems to get better and better with age.
And how cool is the cover art! They apparently built a cage around the film set with the wolf inside it.
